One of the villains of our daily drive is parking – ridiculously high parking fees, congested parking lots, and idiots who learned how to drive but not how to park. With all these parking lot antagonists we've met, there is one that we wish we don't have to deal with.
Let me introduce you, the most confusing parking method, Parallel Parking.
Although some models such as the Ford Focus, Explorer, and Everest offer a feature called “Active Park Assist” that will automatically parallel park your vehicle for you, the rest of us still have to do it the old, manual way. And we have to admit, it’s not that easy.
It's either you're doing it wrong or abandon all hope and don’t try at all.
For the parallel parking neophytes out there, we've created a simple step-by-step guide to show you how it's done.
Step-by-step, this is How to Parallel Park Like a Pro:
- Pull alongside the car ahead of the empty space. Align your rear axle with that car's bumper. Turn the wheel toward the curb at full lock.
- Back up until the inside rear tire aligns with the edge of the car in front. Straighten the wheel, continue to reverse.
- When your outside tire aligns with that same edge, turn the wheel the other way (against the curb), then continue to back up.
- If done correctly, you should be perfectly aligned to the other cars.
That's parallel parking, simplified. Now, get out and try it for yourself.
