About BYD Philippines
Established in 1995, BYD Company Limited is now globally available in more than 80 countries, specializing not just in automobiles, but also in IT and new energy development.
It’s the world’s largest supplier of rechargeable Nickel-Cadmium batteries and controls 55% of the global market share in producing Li-Ion batteries, as well as cell phone chargers and keypads. With this rapid business growth, BYD expanded into the IT industry where it manufactured OEM products for electronic giants like Nokia, Samsung, Philips, Sony Ericsson, Motorola, Kyocera, Huawei, ZTE, Lenovo, and cordless phone experts Vtech, Panasonic, and Sony.
In 2003, BYD officially ventured into the automotive industry, giving birth to BYD Auto Co. Ltd. Its products range from manufacturing high tech and high quality traditional fuel vehicles to hybrid vehicles, pure electric vehicles, and automotive parts and molding.
Back then, the vehicle line-up included traditionally-fuelled models such as the F0, F3, S8, G3, and M6, hybrids such as the F3DM, and pure electric vehicles like the E6 and K9 bus. On top of that, BYD also continue to develop new green energy technologies such as solar farms, battery energy storage stations, LED, and the BYD Iron Phosphate “Fe” battery. This earth-saving battery is completely recyclable, lasts longer than traditional batteries, and has expanded into powering vehicles and energy storage facilities.
BYD’s technological and environmental innovations attracted many global investors to help it grow even further. Among them is world-renowned American investor Warren Buffett, who in 2011 acquired 225 million shares (9.9% stakes) upon seeing its economic and environment-saving potentials. More of BYD’s milestones include a joint venture with Daimler AG for its automotive technologies and receiving a Best Crash Test Facility Award in 2014 for its test center that helps them make major developments in the safety of their vehicles.
BYD has also established a strong presence in the North, Central, and South America with their line of automotive, IT, and new energy products and technologies.
In 2012, BYD began its operations in the Philippines under Solar Transport and Automotive Resources Corporation (STAR Corp) - a part of the Solar Group of Companies, which has diverse business ventures that specialise in TV channels, hotels, casinos, food, and real estate.
STAR Corp currently operates 3 BYD dealerships nationwide namely BYD Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong, BYD North EDSA Quezon City, and BYD Batangas City, with soon-to-open branches in Northern Luzon, Visayas, and Mindanao.
Currently, its product lineup includes the F0 subcompact hatchback, S1 subcompact crossover, and the S7 7-seater SUV. The F0 nameplate has garnered recognitions, adding up to STAR Corp.'s numerous awards. These are the 2014-2015 Value For Money Award for the F0 GL-i MT variant. In addition, the subcompact hatchback also claimed several wins in the 2014 Philippine Micro Series.
STAR Corp envisions itself to be the leading mobility solutions provider, built on excellence in technological innovations, committed to environmental sustainability, and delivering the best brand ownership experience by a team of passionate individuals.
