Meet the EC31, Dongfeng’s electric small commercial vehicle in cab and chassis format. Powering this electric commercial vehicle is a 60 kW electric motor with power coming from a 38.7 kWh Lithium Ion Phosphate (LiFePo4) battery pack.
The result is a pint-sized truck with lots of pulling power. The Dongfeng EC31 has 80 hp and 200 Nm of torque along with a top speed of 80 km/h. This combination of pulling power and size makes the EC31 a great choice for small businesses that operate in tight city streets and also want to use sustainable energy for their hauler.
Launch
The Dongfeng EC31 made its launch in the Philippines in July 2023 alongside other electric commercial vehicles from Dongfeng. The all-electric EC31 boasted a 1,300 kg payload capacity thanks to its electric powertrain. As for the price, at launch, the EC31 came with a launch price of P1,680,000.
Platform, Chassis and Powertrain
Coursing through the EC31’s body is electric power provided by a single 60 kW electric motor. The electric motor takes its juice from a 38.7 kWh Lithium Ion Phosphate (LiFePo4) battery pack. This setup gives the EC31 80 hp and 200 Nm of torque and allows a top speed of 80 km/h. On a single charge, the EC31 can travel a claimed distance of 290 km before needing to top up with electricity again.
Underneath, the EC31 utilizes the same platform as the ones found in Dongfeng’s C-Series of commercial cars overseas. At the front, the EC31 utilizes MacPherson strut suspension while the rear uses leaf springs to boost its payload capacity. Stopping power comes from ventilated discs at the front wheels and drum brakes for the rear wheels.

Technology Features
In terms of features, the EC31 is equipped with a 2DIN radio and air conditioning as standard. Furthermore, the EC31 has dual SRS airbags for the front passengers, a reverse sensor, a parking camera, and a tire pressure monitoring system to improve safety.
Exterior
In terms of looks, the EC31 has the Dongfeng styling down to a tee. The looks are simple and utilitarian, with no excesses, and every bit is functional. Up front, the EC31 has a pair of big headlights that flank the simple grille. Underneath, the small commercial vehicle has a black lower grille with fog lights located at each end.
At the sides, there are 14-inch steel wheels wrapped in tires with 185 mm of tread width. Overall, the EC31 has an unassuming look that is clean and simple.
Interior
Inside the EC31 is also a simple and tough interior. Tough plastics can be found in the dashboard, door panels, and even in the instrument cluster. For a truck that is meant to work every week with little to no downtime, an interior that is resistant to wear and tear is a plus.
The center console is simple and easy to get used to, with controls that are easy to reach for the driver and passenger. Overall, the EC31 has an interior that is expected of a work truck, simple, utilitarian, tough, and easy to maintain.
Safety
In the safety department, the EC31 is equipped with dual SRS airbags for the front passengers as standard equipment. Active safety features include rear parking sensors and a tire pressure monitoring system.
