The Toyota Vios has been a popular choice for Filipino buyers looking for an affordable, reliable, and feature-packed sedan in the country. It offers buyers a wide range of options thanks to multiple variants and accessories to help customers customize their vehicles to their liking. Toyota has also even introduced a new variant, to the Vios lineup in the form of the GR-S. This further expands the sedan’s reach to those who want a sportier-looking vehicle that won’t break the bank. That being said, with all the improvements that Toyota has done to the Vios, here are the 5 things that help the vehicle stand out as a popular choice in the market.
A variant with Toyota Gazoo Racing design
Toyota Motor Corporation has recently invigorated its Gazoo Racing brand and as result, its vehicles are now beginning to come with a much sportier appeal. This change can be seen with the recent introduction of the Toyota Vios GR-S, where the GR-S stands for Gazoo Racing-Sport. The new model takes the normal subcompact sedan and dials its sporty aesthetics to 11 with the inclusion of a new body kit along with a new set of 16-inch wheels. Together, these new additions help turn the humble Vios into a sportier-looking vehicle. To add to this, Toyota has also added new GR-specific accessories to the vehicle helping add to its new more aggressive look. The automaker has also given the vehicle a new 10-speed CVT to further aid with performance all while balancing great fuel efficiency figures that the vehicle has been known to produce. All in all, the GR-S model gives interested buyers the option of getting sportier-looking Vios, all at an affordable price.
Wide range of pricing
Another thing to like about the Toyota Vios is its wide range of pricing. The Japanese automaker has strategically priced its subcompact sedan to meet multiple price points and to fit almost any budget. For those who want a reliable fleet vehicle or a back-to-basics sedan, the Base and J variants are there to meet that need. Those who want a couple more features and access to a CVT can choose to go with the XE, XLE, and E models. While these variants only come with a 1.3-liter engine, they are still well equipped and even come with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Moving up a tier, customers can go for the top-of-the-line models the G and GR-S. These now come with a 1.5-liter motor and come with more tech. The G variant offers interested buyers a more sedate range-topper model, while GR-S offers a sportier approach to the subcompact sedan. The GR-S model also comes with unique accessories to the vehicle making it a worthwhile purchase, if you want a Vios and want to stand out in a crowd.
Two frugal engine options
When it comes to the Toyota Vios, the Japanese brand offers two engine options to choose from in the local market. You have the economical option, in the form of the 1.3-liter naturally aspirated engine, that produces 97hp and 123 Nm of torque, and the 1.5-liter motor that pushes out 105hp and 140 Nm of torque. Either way, you have a pair of engines that are well suited to the vehicle and can return great fuel economy figures. Pair these motors with a CVT and you can get even better fuel efficiency numbers as the transmission will constantly adapt to what you need it to do all while saving on gas.
A great safety rating
Safety is always a top priority when it comes to the cars that Toyota releases to the public and the Vios is no different. The sedan was able to come out with an impressive safety score from the ASEAN New Car Assessment Program. The independent testing party gave the vehicle a 5-star rating thanks to the 7-airbags that are available with all models and the other safety features that the sedan comes with. If you are in the market for a safe yet affordable, then the Toyota Vios ticks all the right boxes. Even the 3-airbag models come with a respectable score and a 4-star safety rating.
A new infotainment system for most of the lineup
Toyota Motor Philippines, in its most recent upgrade to the Vios, has given all models starting from the XE upward Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This means that most of the lineup now comes with a 6.75-inch touchscreen infotainment system, while other units also come with a reverse camera as standard. Having smartphone integration with your vehicle is slowly becoming the new industry standard. With that in mind, Toyota has chosen to follow this trend by giving better options to connect your phone with your vehicle. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, easily let the user connect their phone and display features to make navigation, music streaming, and hands-free calling much easier.
That said, while there are still more features to like about the Toyota Vios, these are the ones that have stood out. Toyota has made a great vehicle that reaches a wide audience, and with that in mind, it’s no wonder that the sedan has sold well in the country throughout the years and continues to do so.
