Many people think of the Chevrolet Spark when we say under P1-million but apart from that, there’s a hatchback, sedans, and even a crossover SUV that can be yours without going over the 7-digit tag price. Using the AutoDeal Car Guide, we look into the choices you have from the bowtie brand.
Chevrolet Spark (P548,888 – P598,888)
The Spark is Chevrolet’s entry to the trendy subcompact market in the country. Its enormous swept-back headlamps, signature brand emblem on top of the two-port grille, and the ‘hidden’ rear door handle for a two-door hatch illusion give it a distinct look from its competitors.
There’s only a handful of difference between the three variants. The first 2, 1.0 LS MT and 1.0 LS AT, only have different transmissions while the top of the line 1.0 LT MT has a bigger 1.2L gasoline engine and a double DIN entertainment system. Despite the price point, safety was not skipped as all models come with an airbag, immobilizer, and alarm.
Chevrolet Sonic (P718,888 – P838,888)
The Chevrolet Sonic has a fascia that’s reminiscent of its muscular brother Camaro, but maintains a tamed look by utilizing classic styling and subdued curves around the body.
Available as a sedan or hatchback, the Sonic runs on a 1.4L gasoline engine capable of 98 hp with 130 Nm of torque. The sedan has more stock storage space at 422L vs 253L, but the hatch has the advantage of foldable seats, giving way for more cargo. Standard amenities include front airbags, ABS with electronic brake-force distribution, rear parking sensors, immobilizer, and security alarm.
Chevrolet Cruze (P858,888 – P963,888)
This compact sedan market is filled with vehicles fighting for feature-to-price ratio, something the Cruze easily settles into. Its 3 variants are all under the P1-million mark giving you enough options without leaving a huge dent in the bank.
All three enjoy the same 1.8L gasoline engine that can produce 142 hp and 177 Nm of torque. It’s attached to a 5-speed manual tranny for the L and LS MT, while those who drive daily in congested areas would appreciate the LS AT’s 6-speed automatic tranny with tiptronics.
Airbags, speed sensing door locks, immobilizer, and safety alarm are available for all three models, while the LS variants have rear parking sensor, steering wheel audio control, and 2 more speakers inside compared to the L variant’s 4.
Chevrolet Sail (P688,888 - P818,888)
Rounding up the sedan offerings under P1-million is the Sail. Unveiled at the recent Manila International Auto Show, the Chevrolet Sail is aimed for first time car buyers or those looking for a sedan that has the right balance of features, power, and price tag.
Unique to the Sail is the sunroof that’s available for the top of the line model. It is powered by either a 1.3L engine with 5-speed Manual transmission, or a 1.5L engine mated to a 4-speed Automatic.
ust a couple of bills below the price limit, the Chevy Trax is an edgy, beefy, full-featured crossover that can get attention. Although, it may be one of the more expensive compact crossovers in its class, the Trax justifies its price tag with what’s inside.
A 1.4L engine with 140 hp sits under the hood which is capable of producing 200 Nm of torque. It’s accompanied by a slew of active features like ABS, traction control, and cornering brake control to give you reliable performance every day.
Not satisfied? The Trax is equipped with 6 airbags inside together with anti-theft alarm, park assist, and remote key. Sounds dull? Enjoy your daily drive with the entertainment system capable of hands-free operation via Bluetooth and goes out of 6-speakers.
An honorable mention for this list is the Chevrolet Spin, the brand’s entry level MPV priced at P838,888 to P928,888. Whether it’s for family or friends, the Spin can take more people without compromising comfort.
This 7-seater has an AM/FM/CD/MP3 player that can be operated hands-free via Bluetooth. There’s also air vents up to the third row for better airflow and cooling.
The 1.3L variants run on a 75 hp diesel engine with 190 Nm of torque. The 1.5L model would satisfy those who crave for power, churning out 109hp and 141 Nm of torque. All models come with Immobilizer and alarm as standard, while the LTZ variants have ABS with EBD, and front passenger airbags.
