When it comes to the subcompact sedan segment in the Philippines there are plenty of vehicles to choose from. These vehicles are often affordably priced and come with frugal engines that are sure to entice first-time buyers and those who are looking to get another vehicle. Enter the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the Kia Soluto, one is a veteran of the segment that has already created a following in the Philippines, while the other is the new kid on the block looking to get a share of the segment. That said. we compare both vehicles by their specifications to see which one comes out on top.
Exterior
On the outside, both the Mirage G4 and the Soluto come similarly equipped when it comes to their lighting and available tire options. Styling aside, both sedans come with halogen headlights at the front and halogen tail lights at the rear. However, the Mitsubishi sedan comes with a few extra genuine accessories that help add a touch of sportiness to the vehicle.
In terms of dimensions, both vehicles are also pretty close in terms of size. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is only 5 mm longer, 30 mm narrower, and is 55 mm taller than the Kia Soluto. This puts both vehicles on a relatively even playing field as both come with their own merits and disadvantages in terms of size. While the G4 is longer the Soluto is wider, which creates more room in the cabin in different aspects. That said, for this category, we will give it as a tie as both sedans are evenly matched in terms of their exterior kit and in terms of their dimensions.
Interior and tech
Both the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 and the Kia Soluto come with utilitarian interior designs as they both come with hard durable plastics as the material of choice. The controls are within reach and are easy to use and understand. The Mirage G4 comes with fabric as its material of choice for its seats while the Soluto has leatherette. The Soluto has circular air vents on the sides with vertical vents in the middle of the dashboard. The Mirage G4 also follows the same design but has rectangular vents at the center.
In terms of their infotainment systems, the Kia Soluto comes out on top as it has a 7-inch head unit that comes with Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and Bluetooth connectivity as standard for all of its variants. On top of this, the South Korean sedan also comes with a reverse camera for all of its models with reverse sensors being available for the EX variant. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4, on the other hand, has a 6.75-inch infotainment system for its top-of-the-line model, while the rest of its model lineup comes with either a 7-inch or 2-DIN head unit. AUX and Bluetooth connectivity are standard for all variants, however, the mid to top range models are equipped with Mirror Link capabilities.
For this category, we give the win to the Kia Soluto as it comes with more standard features available across its model lineup. The addition of the reverse camera also aids in maneuvering the vehicle, especially when parking in tight spaces.
Winner: Kia Soluto
Power
Powering these two sedans are two small-displacement gasoline engines. The Mitsubishi Mirage G4 comes with a 1.2-liter 3-cylinder engine that pushes out 77 hp and 100 Nm of torque. The G4 sents power to the front wheels via either a CVT or 5-speed manual transmission. The Kia Soluto, on the other hand, comes powered by a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated 4-cylinder gasoline motor. It produces 94hp and 131 Nm of torque and sends power to the front wheels via a 5-speed manual or 4-speed automatic transmission.
For this category, we give the win to the Kia Soluto as it produces 17 hp and 31 Nm of torque more than the G4.
Winner: Kia Soluto
Safety
In terms of safety both the Kia Soluto and the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 come with the industry standard, as both vehicles come with two front airbags along with ABS. The G4 does come with a slight advantage as it has Electronic Brakeforce Distribution which is a feature that is absent in the Soluto. The South Korean sedan, however, comes with an engine immobilizer for its higher variant.
With that said, this puts both vehicles on a relatively equal playing field as each has its own merits when it comes to safety. As such, for this category, it results in a tie.
Winner: Tie
Pricing
When it comes to pricing there is a noticeable difference between the two models. The entry-level Kia Soluto starts at P720,000 which is P15,000 more affordable than the entry-level Mitsubishi Mirage G4. The top-of-the-line models, on the other hand, come with an even greater price difference as the G4 starts at P869,000, while the range-topping Soluto can be for P59,000 less.
For this category, we award the win to the Kia Soluto as it is the more affordable vehicle out of the two. Its entry-level EX model is P15,000 less than the GLX Mirage G4, while the EX variant is P59,000 less than the GLS variant of the G4.
Winner: Kia Soluto
Verdict
For this head-to-head comparison, the Kia Soluto takes the overall win. The South Korean sedan is a more affordable vehicle and comes with more standard features across its model lineup. This makes it ideal for those looking to get a sedan but is working on a tight budget.
Despite this, the Mitsubishi Mirage G4 is still a great vehicle that many have come to enjoy its many features and frugal gasoline engine. Aside from this many Mirage G4 communities have sprouted out online that can help you with whatever questions you might have about the sedan.
While both the Mirage G4 and the Soluto have their own unique merits, you can’t go wrong with either choice. They both have durable and strong fuel-efficient engines and are on equal footing when it comes to their cabin space. Both also have affordable price tags well below the P1,000,000 mark that many will find attractive. Overall, both are great vehicles that come with a great value for money proposition.
