The all-new Isuzu mu-X is now officially in the Philippine automotive market, it now brings a new and more sculpted design, more features, more safety features, as well as an increase in power under the hood. This marks significant improvements over the older model which was lacking in these areas but was still able to win over many buyers and Isuzu fans alike. With that said, this begs the question: is it worth upgrading to the new 2022 mu-X?
More power
One of the first few things Isuzu Philippines has done to the new mu-X aside from its new design is to add more power under the hood. In its previous iteration, it came last in terms of how much horsepower and torque its old set of engines was pushing out. Now, however, this has changed as the upgraded 3.0-liter turbo diesel produces 187hp and 450 Nm of torque. This is a significant improvement over the older 3.0-liter engine as it only produced 175 hp 380 Nm of torque. With the new motor, this represents an increase of power by 13 hp and 70 Nm of torque. A significant improvement overall especially in terms of torque.
New infotainment system
The previous generation of the Isuzu mu-X had one last improvement before it officially transition into the newest model available in the market today. The older model was given access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to make it competitive for just a little bit longer against its newer and more updated rivals. With the all-new model, Isuzu has further improved on this by giving its SUV a large 10.1-inch infotainment system that also has Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This keeps the newest iteration of the mu-X competitive with the rest and in some regards a little bit ahead thanks to its bigger touch screen size.
A more refined interior
The older Isuzu mu-X emphasized the utilitarian side of design especially when it came to its interior. Everything in the SUV was functional and was made to be durable harking back to the Isuzu Crosswind which had the same theme. While it was good for its time, it did not age as well as its competitors stepped up in terms of luxury. For its newest model, Isuzu has taken note of what its rivals have done and added a little bit more refinement and luxury to the interior of the mu-X. There are more soft-touch materials inside the SUV along with a much sleeker-looking dashboard. The seats have also been upgraded to be even more comfortable than before. Overall a still familiar package that new users and old fans alike will appreciate and enjoy.
Improvement on safety
While the older version of the Isuzu mu-X had what was considered for its time, the competitive amount of safety features, it was quickly outgunned by its newer rivals that came into the market with fancier and safer technologies. With that in mind, Isuzu took notice of this and has matched the mu-X with similar features as its contemporaries making the SUV even safer than before. The Isuzu 7-seater SUV now even boasts a 5-star ASEAN NCAP rating making it one of the safest vehicles you can buy in the local market today.
A new and more dynamic design
The older version of the Isuzu mu-X had a utilitarian focus design which transitioned from sporty to more luxurious over its model life cycle. This time around the Japanese automaker has decided to go for a sleeker look going away from the boxier and more angular look of its predecessor. This gives the SUV a more imposing stance while still showing off a more refined evolutionary design. It still has the elements that distinctly make it a mu-X while still being able to integrate newer concepts to help modernize its look.
Overall, with improvements to safety, convenience, entertainment, and an increase of power under the hood, the 2022 Isuzu mu-X brings a lot to the table that new and old owners will surely like. A new 10.1-inch infotainment system modernizes the SUV to better compete with its rivals having Apple CarPlay and Android Auto already available for all models. The upgraded 3.0-liter motor puts the mu-X on par with its rivals and its improvements to safety make the vehicle even more appealing to those who want it as a family vehicle.
