The compact crossover market in the Philippines is highly-competitive and overcrowded. Volkswagen Philippines answers the call for a classy, German-engineered SUV that offers versatility and practicality for the Filipino family.
Available in 2 variants, the Tiguan offers the excellent craftsmanship that Volkswagen is known for and a certain amount of exclusivity. The entry-level variant, the Tiguan 1.4 TSI Trend & Fun, is priced at just P1,740,000. This one is front-wheel drive and powered by a 1.4-liter 4-cylinder turbo fuel-injected gasoline engine that provides 121 hp and 200 Nm of torque. This engine is mated to a 6-speed manual transmission and features Volkswagen’s fuel-saving BlueMotion Technology.
The top-of-the-line variant, the Tiguan 2.0 TDI Sport & Style, features a 4-wheel drive system called 4Motion. It’s powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder, common rail turbo direct injection diesel engine that generates 138hp and 320Nm of torque and is mated to a 6-speed automatic DSG gearbox. Priced at P2,109,000, the more expensive variant gets bigger 17 in wheels, cruise control, park distance control with acoustic signal and the Driver Alert System. This variant also gets the Keyless-Go entry/exit and Push Start System.
Both variants get a huge range of safety features for peace of mind on those long drives and unpredictable driving conditions in and around the metro. ISOFIX anchor points are standard, allowing mounting of 2 child seats on the rear seat. The entire safety alphabet is standard with Electronic Stabilisation Program (ESP), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Brake Assistant, Traction Control (ASR), Electronic Differential Lock (EDS), and Engine Drag Torque Control (EDTC). 6 airbags provide additional passenger safety in the event of a collision, and extended pedestrian protection measures are standard, as well.
Feature-wise, the Tiguan comes with an 8-speaker audio setup and the RCD 310 accommodates standard music formats and sources. The useful 40/20/40-split-folding rear seatbacks are extremely versatile and enable passengers to occupy the two outboard seats while long items rest on the folded middle section. The rear seats can also be moved fully forward or folded completely flat for more cargo space.
With solid German build and understated styling, the Volkswagen Tiguan stands out in a market of predominantly Asian brands, offering the versatility, safety, and power for any driving situation.
