The BYD Seal is BYD Philippines’ latest addition to its growing EV lineup and it plays a very different role from the crossovers that precede it. Whereas the Atto 3, the Seagull, the Sealion 6, and the Dolphin were focused on providing bang-for-your-buck, practical, electric motoring, the Seal is here to provide two main things, luxury and performance.
Now that it is officially launched after its appearance at the 2024 Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit, we thought we’d break down the qualities and features of the BYD Seal that we think make it special. Who knows? Maybe the BYD Seal can convince you to go electric.
BYD Blade Battery
We start with a biggie, a literal biggie, the BYD Blade Battery. Despite the Seal only being a four-door sedan, this cruiser is packing an 82.6 kWh Blade Battery, BYD’s proprietary Lithium Iron Phosphate battery. This large battery pack gives the BYD Seal a claimed driving range of 580 km, however, a higher driving range isn’t all the Blade Battery can provide.
According to BYD, the Blade Battery boasts higher durability and protection from penetration. In addition, BYD also says that the Blade Battery is less susceptible to catching fire even after experiencing severe damage.
Tons of power
The Seal’s battery pack's large capacity isn’t just for the extra driving range; it also fuels the pair of powerful motors that drive it. The Seal is an all-wheel drive sedan that is propelled by one motor at the front and one at the rear. The front motor puts out 214 hp while the rear puts out 307 hp. The same goes for torque figures as well, the front motor is capable of putting down 310 Nm while the rear has 360 at its disposal for a combined output of 521 hp and 670 Nm of torque.
The result is a rear-wheel-biased sports car with a low center of gravity that has major pulling power and lots of horsepower. It may be limited to 180 km/h but the Seal can do a zero to 100 km/h sprint in just 3.8 seconds, enough to embarrass most sports cars on the road.
Sleek and futuristic looks
For most people, the real appeal of a car is its design, and the Seal nails it. While details like power and battery capacity are important, it’s the style and aesthetics that truly turn heads. The BYD Seal showcases a streamlined, sporty silhouette that is both aerodynamic and eye-catching. The front end is clean and modern, often featuring LED headlights that add a touch of aggression to its look. Smooth lines run along the sides, giving it a dynamic appearance, while the rear is finished with sharp, contemporary styling that includes a full-width LED light bar. These design choices lend the car a premium look that feels modern and contemporary.
A luxurious and tech-filled interior
If the exterior is capable of turning heads, the interior of the Seal is designed to provide a luxurious experience. The BYD Seal emphasizes a refined, driver-focused experience with premium materials and a minimalist design. Soft-touch surfaces and high-quality finishes create a welcoming atmosphere, while the spacious cabin allows for comfortable seating in both the front and rear. The dashboard is sleek and uncluttered, with a large touchscreen as the centerpiece, giving easy access to controls and infotainment. Ambient lighting adds to the luxurious feel, and thoughtful touches like ergonomic seating and ample storage make it practical as well as stylish.
In terms of tech, the Seal is equipped with a 15.6-inch rotating touchscreen and a 12-speaker Dynaudio speaker system. Air conditioning is handled by a Dual-zone automatic climate control system that comes with rear air vents, a negative ion filter, a PM2.5 filter, and a CN95 filter. The array also includes a head-up display, OTA updates, and a voice assistant. Safety features encompass 12 airbags, electronic stability, and anti-lock brakes.
The BYD Seal's Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), known as DiPilot, offers a sophisticated array of features to enhance safety and driving convenience. It includes a 360-degree camera system with see-through mode for extra visibility, while a head-up display (HUD) projects key information onto the windshield for easier access. The main features include Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Lane-Keeping Assist (LKA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Predictive Collision Warning (PCW), Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB), Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR), Blind Spot Detection (BSD), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), and Intelligent Speed Limit Control (ISLC) Together, these ADAS features offer a safer, more intuitive driving experience by reducing the driver's workload and minimizing accident risks.
The features we mentioned are only the tip of the iceberg of the BYD Seal’s impressive package. For an in-depth look at everything this EV offers, check out the BYD Seal Car Guide on AutoDeal.com.ph.
