The 2022 Isuzu mu-X was recently launched in the Philippines. With the arrival of the model, we bid goodbye to the utilitarian design of the previous version and welcome in a new sleeker look. Along with its new looks, the 7-seater turbo diesel SUV also brings with it a host of new features that put it in line with the rest of its competitors. That said, here is what’s new with the 2022 Isuzu mu-X.
Evolution in its design
One of the first few things you will notice about the new Isuzu mu-X is its much more rounded design language. The previous iteration had more cuts, creases, and angles, this time around Isuzu has chosen to go with a sleeker appearance for the SUV. Despite this new sleeker look, the new SUV still manages to retain the key design elements that make it distinctly a mu-X. This can be seen in the sharp LED headlights and its large aggressive-looking grille.
Even the rear of the vehicle showcases an evolutionary design as it retains a familiar layout but with an updated look. This evolutionary design can also be seen elsewhere in the SUV with its bumpers that are now more aerodynamically sculpted along with its new set of wheels. Overall the 2022 version of the mu-X takes its previous design to the next level while still maintaining an imposing look and stance.
A more refined cabin
Similar to the exterior, the cabin also gets a nice new look with a more refined feel to it. While the Isuzu mu-X does share the same design and layout of its dashboard as its pickup truck sibling the D-MAX. It still manages to change up a few design elements that better suit the SUV. This can be seen near the gear shifter where there are a few changes done to help distinguish the SUV from its pickup truck brother.
Compared to its older iteration, there are more soft-touch materials onboard the vehicle. This can be felt on the dashboard, on the door sidings, and through the seats themselves which give off a more luxurious feel. Even the design of the seats reflects the overall new look of the vehicle thanks to strategically put stitching and good bolstering placement.
More features
Aside from its new 10.1-inch full touchscreen infotainment system that comes with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto capabilities, the Isuzu mu-X also gets a host of other features. For starters, the SUV now comes with two USB charging ports found in the center storage compartment of the vehicle. It also now comes equipped with a 220V accessory socket that allows the users of the vehicle to charge and run much larger devices. It is important to note, however, that this feature is only available on the LS-E variants.
New convenience features have also been added to the vehicle, these include a walk-away auto lock, a follow-me-home function for the headlights, and a new electronic parking brake system that comes with an auto-hold function.
Advanced Driver Assist System
One of the key features of the new Isuzu mu-X is that it now comes with the company’s version of an Advanced Driver Assist System (ADAS). This gives the SUV features such as smart duo camera and rear radar, forward collision warning, autonomous emergency braking, turn assist, pedal misapplication mitigation, a blind spot monitoring system, rear cross-traffic alert, and a multi-collision brake system. All of these features on top of its standard 7-airbags and ABS with EBD functionality make for a much safer vehicle than ever before. Thanks to these features the Isuzu mu-X comes with a 5-star ASEAN NCAP crash rating further cementing itself as one of the safest SUVs you can buy in the ASEAN region today.
A little more horsepower but a lot more torque
The 2022 Isuzu mu-X still retains the same two displacements for its engines. This means that the SUV can still be had with either a 1.9 or a 3.0-liter motor under its hood. While the 1.9-liter powerplant still has the same output as before, pushing out 148 hp and 350 Nm of torque. Its 3.0-liter motor has gotten a significant boost in performance. The old 3.0-liter powerplant used to produce 175 hp and 380 Nm of torque, for its newest version it now makes 187 hp and 450 Nm of torque. This represents an increase of 12 hp and 70 Nm of torque which puts the SUV on par with the rest of its competition. Just like before, the mu-X can be had with either a 6-speed automatic or 6-speed manual transmission.
