There are people who just want a pickup truck to perform like it should – has enough pull, reliable for everyday tasks, and of course – a good price tag to match. The JMC Hunter is one such vehicle.
You probably Googled them by now and found out they’re a Chinese brand. Boycott Chinese products, you say. Not reliable, they say. Well, JMC has been in the truck game since the ‘50s, originally repairing them. Then they had the opportunity to partner up with Isuzu and Ford in the ‘90s to manufacture and assemble some of the trucks from the two brands. With that kind of experience, I think it’s safe to say they know a thing or two in making dependable vehicles.
Price
Simplicity is the Hunter’s game with only two variants currently available, giving you an easier time in making a decision. It starts at P680,000 for the 4x2 model while the 4x4 version has an P850,000 tag price.
You might assume that this is a barebones truck because of the price. Well it is, but that’s the advantage of the Hunter. It has all the basics covered to take you from point A to point B comfortably, making it an ideal daily workhorse. With both models well below a million, it’s not hard to see the allure of owning one, or a few if you need a fleet.
Design and Features
Despite its name, the Hunter has a subdued look with clean lines and subtle fender flares. Its front fascia continues the curves from the hood and merges it to the lower bumper, giving it harmony. Inside is a 5-seater cabin that has the basic amenities for convenience during trips – air conditioning to conquer the heat and a CD player for aural entertainment, while the 4x4 variant has front airbags.
Performance
It has a 2.8L diesel engine under the hood capable of 91 hp and 210 Nm of torque, transferred at the rear wheels for the 4x2 variant or all four for the 4x4 model. That’s enough for hauling things in the city but if you regularly go out of town and encounter a bit of rough terrain, the 4x4 variant is there to ensure better handling at such situations.
With decades of experience in making trucks, basic amenities, and a good price tag – the JMC Hunter is poised to help you with your business, or whatever you might need a reliable pickup truck for.
