As much as we want to keep our car’s exterior and interior clean, it’s also important to have other out-of-sight areas such as the underside of your vehicle washed and free from grime or any sort of elements it accumulated driving it on or off-road. Doing this routine will net several benefits, and we’ve listed some reasons why you should clean the underside of your car more often.
- Dirt and other elements can accumulate on the underside of your car - Without a doubt, the undercarriage of your car is closely exposed to the ground, which means, every time you drive it, the more the dirt and other elements stick and build up at the underside of your car. Letting it sit there for an extensive amount of time would cause it to cake up in all sorts of nooks and crannies. It is especially important to try and keep the underside of your car clean if it is being used off-road or if it is being driven in areas where it is subject to an excessive amount of road grime or surface salts.
- It prevents rusting - Rusting is one of the greatest enemies to your car. Local roads have rocks and gravel that often beat up the undercarriage of your vehicle especially if you’re driving something that sits lower to the ground like a sedan. Aside from washing the rocks and gravel stuck underneath your car, detailing should also clean the damaged parts and dry them off. Plus, a protective coating applied should avoid rust or any further damage in the long run.
- It also avoids drainage problems - Given the build-up of dirt, grease, and grime, the drainage holes located at the undercarriage of your car may get clogged. This could trap the water collected during the rainy season and increase the chances of rusting. Having the underside of your car cleaned shall clear the holes from any grime, ensuring that its drainage system will function properly when needed.
- You save some of the under components of your car from deterioration - There are several components that are situated underneath your car, and if contamination or corrosion happens, there is a chance that some of its mechanicals would deteriorate over time. Specifically, some experts claim that the brakes, steering, suspension, exhaust, and even other underbody components that comprise the structural integrity of the vehicle all deteriorate and malfunction when you do not wash the underside of your car.
Make it part of your car care routine
We highly advise that you clean the underside of your car more often especially if your car drives through tough terrains or is regularly exposed to an excessive amount of road grime or surface salts. Experts recommend that you have it done at least every other week in order to maintain its tip-top condition. Not to mention, it also makes your car safer as this method helps you maintain the structural integrity of your car as well as allowing some of its underbody components to function properly when needed and without obstruction.
