The 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe Sport has earned a Top Safety Pick+ rating from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS).
The IIHS subjected the latest Santa Fe Sport to a “small overlap front” crash test. This replicates an event wherein a vehicle’s front corner hits another vehicle or a large object like a utility pole or a tree. On impact, the 2017 Santa Fe’s driver space was maintained well with maximum intrusion of 3 inches at the footrest. The test dummy was well-restrained, and its head didn’t rebound violently upon hitting the airbag.
The Santa Fe Sport also has good ratings in the moderate overlap front, side, roof strength, and head restraint tests. The IIHS said that a vehicle must earn good ratings on those evaluations in order to qualify for Top Safety Pick+.
In addition, the vehicle’s optional front crash prevention system gets a superior rating. The Santa Fe Sport is said to successfully avoid collisions in IIHS test track at speeds of 19 km/h and 40 km/h.
Of note, Hyundai Asia Resources, Inc. (HARI) is not offering the Sante Fe Sport in the Philippines. However, they do offer the Grand Santa Fe and Santa Fe models locally.
