The calendar year is about to end, but car companies aren't about to rest in bringing in new vehicles just yet. Mazda Philippines formally launches the gasoline-powered 2020 CX-5 into the local market with a couple of upgrades. The Japanese car company added a new featured-packed trim level into the lineup: the CX-5 FWD Sport. The new variant slips in just below the two all-wheel-drive variants of the crossover.
The new 2020 CX-5 SkyActiv-G models get a couple of new suspension tweaks further enhancing the vehicle’s riding and driving dynamics. These enhancements are designed to deliver a supple ride according to Mazda. These new suspension tweaks are also paired with the addition of G-Vectoring Plus (standard across the 2020 models) which makes driving the vehicle less stressful.
The interior also gets a bump in terms of quality and feel to go in line with the brand’s more premium brand theme. The refreshed crossover now gets new black leather seats with orange trims in the AWD and FWD Sport variants. The vehicles now get an eight-way power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function for the Sport variants while the Pro variant only gets a six-way adjustable seat. The 2.0L FWD Sport also gets a power tailgate adding more convenience features to the vehicle.
Similar to that of the all-wheel-drive variant the 2.0-liter Sport variant gets goodies from its bigger 2.5L engine counterpart. It now shares the same 7-inch TFT customizable instrument cluster display. It also features a new set of climate controls that are similar in design to that of the Mazda6 and Mazda3.
The Mazda Connect infotainment system in the vehicle now features Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The smartphone mirroring capability is now available across the Skyactiv-G range of the CX-5. The 2.0-liter Sport variant also gets a 10-speaker Bose sound system similar to what the range-topping variants get. The Pro variant, on the other hand, gets a 6-speaker sound system instead.
For safety, the 2020 CX-5 Sport variants come with a 360-degree camera paired with front and rear parking sensors. These two help making maneuvering in tight spaces easy. Other safety features for the new crossover include blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert systems
For the 2020 model year the CX-5 will be made in the following prices:
2.0 Pro FWD – P1,730,000
2.0 Sport FWD – P1,890,000
2.5 Sport AWD – P1,990,000
Missing the diesel? Don’t worry it's still on sale along with its new gas counterparts. The retail price for the diesel remains the same at P2,230,000. The updated Sport Diesel variant is expected to arrive next year.
