The Isuzu D-MAX is proving itself time and again as one of the safest pickup trucks in the market today. First, it was able to get a 5-star rating on the ASEAN NCAP, then it did it again for the Australasian NCAP, and now it gets another great score with the Euro NCAP. It is important to note that the Euro NCAP is one of the hardest tests to get a 5-star rating on as their testing procedures are more stringent and follow a different set of criteria.
When it came to the results the Japanese pickup truck did splendidly coming with 84% in Adult Occupation, 86% in Child Occupation, 69% in Vulnerable Road Users Protection, and 86% for its Safety Assist technologies. Even the Euro NCAP was impressed with the vehicle as they noted that it came with a superior level of protection for its occupants during the various crash tests done to the vehicle. This even included the most severe side pole impact test design to really test out the safety and rigidity of the vehicle’s body.

However, it’s not all great scores all around for the Isuzu D-MAX as it did lack in a few categories. The Japanese pickup truck didn’t perform too well when it came to road users and pedestrian protection as the vehicle did not feature reverse autonomous emergency braking and an active hood. Despite this, the Isuzu D-MAX was still given a 5-star rating.
The Euro NCAP has also stated that some of the results from the ANCAP tests were carried over for their test. It is important to note, however, that some tests were redone in order to ensure that the ratings were correct and the testing was done correctly for the European market.
Giving it such an impressive score was partly thanks to the European Isuzu D-MAX coming equipped with a host of safety equipment which includes 7 airbags as standard, autonomous emergency braking for the front, and a multi-collision braking system. It also comes with an e-call system that notifies emergency personnel of your location if your vehicle ends up in an accident.
With the 2021 Isuzu D-MAX scoring high across multiple new car assessment programs, it’s definitely a vehicle we want to see in the Philippines. Only one question now remains and that’s when it will be exactly launched in the country.
