The 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 AMG has officially made its Philippine. With the second generation of the SUV officially in the country it brings with it only one variant in the form of the GLA 200 AMG. The new SUValso marks the 8th model to join the local lineup of Mercedes Benz vehicles utilizing the Modular Front Architecture from the German brand. The GLA 200 AMG also represents the entry level into the Mercedes-Benz successful family of SUV models.
Exterior
On the outside, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLA comes with a similar design to the previous model. It brings with it a large diamond radiator grille that comes with chrome pins flanked on either side by LED headlights. Underneath the vehicle also sports a new black bumper accent that stretches from either end of the bumper along with a lower intake grille.
Mercedes-Benz has also given the GLA 200 AMG a more commanding view of the road making the vehicle easier to drive. The new SUV has also grown in terms of size, as the new model now measures in at 1,611mm, which makes it taller than its predecessor by 100mm. Moving on to the side and the GLA also now comes with a new set of 19-inch 5 twin-spoke-light-alloy wheels, a roofliner, and polished aluminum roof rails. These new additions are further complimented by the new character and muscle lines found on the side of the vehicle.
Interior and tech
On the inside, the 2021 Mercedes-Benz GLA comes with a familiar interior layout with its standard leather seats. The new SUV now features a more upright seating position compared to the previous model as the driver and passenger seats are now positioned much higher than before. This gives the driver and the vehicle’s occupants a more SUV-like ride and feel.
More space and comfort can be had with the new GLA as it features a 40:20:40 split for its rear seats. These can then be folded down individually creating space when needed. With these new seats, it allows for better space management for cargo loading and gives occupants a more configurable seating positing. Even the luggage tray has been adapted for comfort as it now comes with 2 stages and a compartment floor console. Speaking of seats, the driver’s seat also features power-adjustability along with 3 programmable settings.
At the center of it all, the Mercedes-Benz GLA 200 AMG also comes with a 7-inch MBUX media touchscreen display that also comes with the “Hey Mercedes” voice command. To add to this the new SUV also comes with a Light and Sight package that gives the vehicle’s passengers better visibility inside the cabin as well as add ambiance.
Power
Under the hood, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLA comes with a 1.3-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. This compact power plant produces 163hp and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired with a 7G dual-clutch automatic transmission that sends powers to the front wheels. It also comes with Dynamic Select that lets the user change the driving profile of the vehicle. These driving profiles include Eco, Comfort, Sport, and Individual to give the driver and the vehicle’s passengers the best experience possible.
Safety
In terms of safety, the 2021 Mercedes Benz GLA comes with the brand’s Intelligent Drive system. This gives the SUV Active Brake Assist which autonomously applies the brakes to avoid a collision or to reduce the severity of it. The vehicle also comes with Attention Assist with adjustable sensitivity to warn the driver upon detecting the typical signs of inattentiveness or drowsiness.
Parking is also made easier with the GLA 200 AMG as its Parking Package now gives the vehicle Active Park Assist with a reverse camera. It also comes with a Tire Pressure Loss Warning System that monitors the inflation pressure of all four tires of the SUV while driving.
Pricing
The 2021 Mercedes Benz GLA comes to the Philippine market with a price tag of P3,290,000 for its sole 200 AMG variant.
