Nissan Philippines has been teasing this bad boy for a while now. We’ve been waiting patiently, and after a series of pandemic-related delays and mishaps, the moment is finally here. The 2022 Nissan Terra has officially launched in our market, and it gets some exciting updates inside and out.
Exterior
Nissan has done the work to make the Terra less like the Navara and more like a downsized Patrol, and we have to say, they did a nice job.
It all starts with the front fascia. The new model gets redesigned C-shaped headlights that are both slimmer and sharper, and the higher trims get a quad-LED system with new daytime running lights (DRLs). A new grille is also featured. The busy patterned grille is gone, replaced by a larger and simpler design that makes the Terra look a bit more refined. Apart from that, there's a new bumper with a more prominent chin, flanked by upsized fog lights on either side.
Moving along to the rear, we see similarly sharper LED taillights and a new chrome fixture accentuating the tailgate. The rear bumper is also restyled, now featuring a bigger skid plate and low-mounted reflectors. Like putting a cherry on top, Nissan also bestowed its newest mid-size SUV with a sporty rear spoiler and a shark fin antenna. Bolder 18-inch wheels with 255/60 R18 measurements round out the exterior updates for this new model.
Interior and Technology
Like the outside, the inside of the new Terra also receives a radical redesign. You can no longer say that this is the Navara's interior. No, the cabin looks all-new, and we're here for it.
The silhouette of the dashboard is changed, featuring flowing lines and understated styling. The two-tone red and black interior looks dashing, and a good chunk of soft-touch leather also helps add some premium feel to the vehicle. One of the more notable changes is the updated instrument cluster with a new 7-inch TFT screen tucked between the gauges. This is complemented by a sportier, leather-wrapped, flat-bottom steering wheel. The center console is also redesigned with a new infotainment system in tow. The touchscreen display has been enlarged to 9 inches, and it gets Android Auto and wireless Apple CarPlay, too.
Next on the list are the new aircon vents, climate control panels, and gear selector, which all get new designs. Nissan also equipped the new Terra with six airbags for the driver and passengers. As for the second row, the seat design has been updated with a new geometric pattern, while the rear air vent and USB ports have been retained. An 11-inch rear monitor with HDMI is present, as is a new USB-C port and wireless charger. These are welcome additions that should appease techy individuals. On the top-spec variant, there’s also an 8-speaker Bose audio system.
A range of Nissan Intelligent Mobility features is available, including a 360-degree camera, a camera-based rear-view mirror, intelligent emergency braking, forward collision warning, lane departure warning, blind-spot warning, and blind-spot indicators.
Power
Under the hood, the 2022 Nissan Terra features the same motor as the Navara, a 2.5-liter turbocharged diesel engine. The power plant puts out 190 hp and 450 Nm of torque and connects to either a 6-speed manual or 7-speed automatic transmission. On engine noise, things are a tad quieter than the outgoing model, thanks to acoustic glass reinforcing the front and sides. While its predecessor is equipped with rear drum brakes, the new Terra gets rear disc brakes, meaning it now rides on a full disc braking system.
Pricing
The 2022 Nissan Terra starts at P1,649,000 for the base model EL 4x2 MT and goes up to P2,339,000 for the top VL 4x4 AT variant. Color options include Nebula Metallic Copper, Forged Metallic Copper, Lunar Metallic Gray, Galaxy Black, Brilliant Silver, and Aspen Pearl White. Availing the Aspen Pearl White color variant costs an additional P15,000. For full pricing information, visit our car guide on the 2022 Nissan Terra.
