The still ongoing pandemic has changed a lot of things as new safety measures now have to be adhered to. With the new normal now in play the 8th annual Philippine Electric Vehicle Summit (PEVS) with the theme of “moving forward to electrified mobility in the new normal” had to be shifted to an online platform. Composed of the members of the Electric Vehicle Association of the Philippines (EVAP) the 3-day long event scheduled for September 24-26 of this year. It will be focusing on electric vehicle adoption and the challenges, as well as the opportunities, brought about by the Pandemic. The summit will also address the supply and demand aspect of these electric vehicles (EV) as the market shifts toward personal affordable mobility.
EV prospects continue to be bright despite the pandemic. According to International Energy Agency forecast, global sales will rise 6% this year to 2.3 million vehicles before exploding to 45 million by 2030.
Mr. Araga further continues by stating that the key players in the Philippine EV industry are eagerly looking forward to the immediate passage of the Electric Vehicles and Charging Stations Act. An act if passed will help fast track the adoption of EVs in the country. This will pave the way for better sales of hybrid vehicles in the country such as the Toyota Corolla Altis Hybrid, Geely Azkarra, Hyundai Ioniq, and the recently launched Toyota Corolla Cross. If passed it could even help bring in the plug-in EV versions of these vehicles as well.
The measure seeks to ensure that there will be electric vehicles charging infrastructure both in the public and private sectors. Also included is for gasoline stations to provide a safe space in which electrified vehicles can park and charge at a reasonable cost. The act also further pushes the use of these clean methods of transportation by having companies as well as government agencies adopt a minimum 5% share of EVs in their respective fleets.
With the event itself to happen in late September the ultimate goal for the summit is to bring everyone together companies and government agencies alike to further make it possible for electric-powered vehicles to enter the local market. The summit itself will also serve as an online platform in which key players in the EV industry can discuss the most recent innovations, trends, as well as concerns with the adoption of electrified mobility in certain areas.
