According to the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID), sales of its members experienced a massive 151% growth year-over-year for Q1 2016. Their year-to-date sales from January to March has now reached 21,160 units.
The Q1 2016 sales for Passenger Car (PC) segment ballooned by 81% with 7,609 units sold compared to the 4,205 units sold during the same period in 2015. On the other hand, the Light Commercial Vehicle (LCV) segment shot up by 220% with 13,551 units in Q1 2016 compared to just 4,229 Q1 2015. The addition of Ford and Suzuki to AVID last year could be the reason of the sudden increase in sales in this segment.
After combining the total of units sold for PC and LCV, new member Ford is on top of the sales chart with 7,876 units sold. The American brand is followed closely by Hyundai with 7,469 units while fellow newcomer Suzuki is in 3rd with 3,048 units sold. Chevrolet managed to sell 1,527 units putting them in 4th, while Japanese marque Subaru comes in 5th with 789 units sold.
AVID is composed of the following car manufacturers in the Philippines: Audi, Chevrolet, Chrysler, Dodge, FAW, Ford, FOTON, Geely, Hyundai, Jaguar, Jeep, King Long, Lamborghini, Land Rover, Maserati, Mercedes-Benz, MINI, Porsche, Rolls-Royce, Subaru, Suzuki, and Volvo.
