BMW Philippines unveiled two new models into its local line up at a double launch event. The German luxury brand gave the public a view of its latest models, a Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) and a pair of premium hatchbacks. The SAV being the X1 and the two hatchbacks being the BMW M135i and 118i. The hatchback twins and the SAV represent the latest and greatest offerings the brand has for the Philippine market. Sharing the display stage with the new additions were a 520d and an X6. Adding more fun to the event, select models were also available for test drives around the area.
BMW M135i
Taking center stage at the event was the top-of-the-line 1-series - the M135i. The premium hatchback features the brand’s new face larger kidney grilles. It comes with impressive power figures thanks to a 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine. The powerplant produces 306hp and 450 Nm of torque. Power is sent through its xDrive all-wheel-drive system and via an 8-speed Steptronic transmission. Staying true to its M badging the hatchback comes equipped with several performance goodies. It comes to an M performance package, M Sport brakes, and with M Sport steering. All of these features make the M135i a potent performance vehicle.
Adding convenience to the performance vehicle is an automatic 2-zone climate control system, a comfort access system, electrically adjustable seats with memory function, an interior lights package, and lumbar support for the front passenger and driver. The M goodies don’t stop with performance upgrades, as the hatchback features an M leather steering wheel, M seat belts, and M sport seats for the driver and front passenger.
It also comes with, automatic start/stop, a driving assistant, park distance control for the front and rear, a parking assistant, BMW's iDrive system which makes it easier for the driver to access infotainment features, and a rearview camera. Pricing for the BMW M135i starts at P4,590,000 and is available in Alpine White and Misano Blue. It comes with a 5-year or 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty.
BMW 118i Sport
Moving on to the tamer version of the M135i is the 118i Sport presents a premium option with a comfort-oriented feel. Unlike its more powerful twin, the premium hatchback carries a humble 1.5 3-cylinder turbocharged engine. Despite having only 3-cylinders and having a smaller displacement it still manages to crank out 150hp and 220 Nm of torque. It comes with solely in a Sport Line trim level. This gives the hatchback black accents and window graphics in BMW individual high-gloss Shadow Line and sports seats. Just like its M badged brother, it carries BMW's iDrive system. The 118i Sport comes priced at P2,690,000 and is available in the following colors: Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Glacier Silver, and Mineral Gray. Like its range-topping brother, it comes with a 5-year or 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty.
BMW X1 sDrive 18d xLine
Being one of the two models being launched the BMW X1 sDrive 18d xLine also took center stage. It represents the brand’s entry into the premium crossover segment. It comes with a larger BMW grille that now merges with the kidney grilles at the center. Adding to the grille are its new LED headlights that now have sharper light iconography and a bumper with larger intakes compared to the previous model. Powering the premium crossover is a 2.0-liter turbo diesel engine that produces 150hp and 350 Nm of torque. The power is managed by an 8-speed Steptronic transmission that sends powers to the front-wheels.
For the interior the BMW X1 comes with a high gloss interior trim, that is combined with pearl chrome inserts. It comes with the standard Sensatec upholstery which provides the vehicle with a comfortable and pleasurable experience. One of the highlights of the vehicle is its control display, which comes in a centrally mounted 6.5-inch screen that can be operated using the BMW iDrive Controller. The Control display makes for an ideal platform on which to explore the X1’s varied infotainment offerings and access digital services via BMW ConnectedDrive. The rear passengers also get the extra convenience of two USB-C ports which are located near the rear ventilation of the vehicle for charing convenience.
Pricing for the X1 starts at P,3090,000 and is available with two colors: Alpine White and Black. It also comes with a 5-year or 200,000-kilometer manufacturer’s warranty.
