Did you recently buy a brand-new car but still haven’t received your official LTO license plates? Well, tough luck, because the no plate, no travel policy will soon be implemented for four-wheeled vehicles. That’s because the backlog of license plates has already been completely addressed, at least according to the LTO.
LTO Chief Vigor D. Mendoza II went on the record to verify that there is no longer a backlog surrounding the license plates of four-wheeled vehicles. “On the part of the LTO, I can assure you that there is no longer a backlog on the license plates for four-wheel vehicles. The problem, however, is that these license plates are not properly distributed and remain in the possession of the motor vehicle dealers,” he said.
So yes, if your brand new car still doesn’t have its license plate, then the burden of providing said plates rests on your dealer, as emphasized by the LTO.
You can check on the status of your license plates by getting in contact with your dealer, and we’d suggest you do so immediately to avoid the hassle and penalties that will surely accompany the no plate, no travel policy.
To expedite the distribution of license plates, the LTO says that they will conduct regular inspections and visits to motor vehicle dealers to make sure that registered vehicle owners are claiming their license plates in a timely manner.
Apparently, it seems that a good number of vehicle owners are not interested in claiming their license plates from the dealers, due to the lax regulations surrounding their use at present. This is soon about to change, as the no plate, no travel policy is expected to be implemented before 2024 draws to a close.
So there you have it. Do you have a new vehicle that still doesn’t have its license plate? If so, then you better get in touch with your dealer ASAP to steer clear of any unnecessary hassle and penalties.
