The Chamber of Automotive Manufacturers of the Philippines, Inc. (CAMPI), Truck Manufacturers Association, Inc. (TMA), and the Association of Vehicle Importers and Distributors (AVID), consolidated a report that stated dramatic sales shifts in 2018.
Last year, I asked my team if getting into the top 10 auto brands is feasible. Sabi nila, kayang-kaya. And true enough, we were able to deliver. I am beyond grateful because my vision for FOTON is now turning into reality.
There were vehicle sales of 401,803 units in 2018, and while other players in the industry experienced slowdowns in their sold units, Foton Motor Philippines Inc. (FMPI) posted gains. Due to the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) Act, FMPI managed to enter the top 10 brands in the Philippines. Foton is now ninth in the overall automotive industry ranking, edging out American car manufacturer, Chevrolet.
FMPI became the bronze-medal finisher in the light duty truck segment. Finishing first was a well a known brand, Isuzu, and second was an established brand, Hino. Foton managed to bag third place in the segment race.
For us, despite increased competition, four factors worked in our favor to make 2018 a stellar year -- the loyalty of the customers, the dedication of our dealer partners, the hard work of our field force and most importantly, the capability and superiority of our product line.
In total, FOTON Philippines sold 4,141 units for both their passenger vehicle and commercial vehicle lineup. Sytin, astounded by the 1% market penetration said, “Before, we didn’t even reach 1%”, noting the growth of the FOTON brand.
Sytin also anticipates that FOTON Philippines will continue to rise with its momentum in 2019. The brand is planning to provide more mobility solutions as the Philippines is setting up to experience another industrial revolution with the Build, Build, Build program.
FOTON Ph commercial vehicles, both in the light duty and heavy duty category, continue to make splashes throughout the industry. FMPI pioneers innovative technologies such as FOTON Blue Energy Euro 4, building up its opportunities and the strength in product quality.
With over 12 years of experience with its clients, business owners can rely on any FOTON vehicle to provide reliable service throughout the course of the truck’s life. With an expanding dealer network, FOTON can promise clients in almost all regions with sales and support for its vehicles.
We have also started opening dealerships housing dedicated maintenance facilities not only for passenger vehicles and light duty trucks, but also for Heavy Duty facility. With the adequate equipment and well-trained aftersales technicians, this can help the customers to experience minimal vehicle downtime for their businesses.
Aftersales and support also received an upgrade from FMPI. EC-Parts and EC Mobile Service Truck campaigns were launched to bolster the support that owners can avail of from the manufacturer. “Dahil sa FOTON, kayang-kaya” the ending statement by Sytin encapsulated what clients can expect from the brand moving forward.
