Genesis the luxury brand of Hyundai has recently launched its 2021 G80 luxury sedan to the world via an online release. The vehicle was originally supposed to be launched during the Geneva Motor Show but since the auto show got canceled due to the Coronavirus the South Korean luxury brand has opted for an online release instead with three variants available.
Exterior
On the exterior Hyundai applied its new design language to the vehicle with similar features to the GV80 SUV that the brand launched earlier in January. Other elements found in the luxury sedan are its high-tech quad headlights and crested grille. The grille also features a chrome mesh design that is also applied to its lower bumper. It also comes with thin LED signal lights that can also be side on the front quarter panels of the vehicle. With all these features the G80 still manages to have a minimalistic design.
Interior
On the inside the G80 comes with several interior color options but the primary color remains black. You get wood trim accents found in the dashboard and transmission tunnel. The steering wheel which is wrapped in leather can also be color matched to the interior’s color scheme. At the center of the dashboard is a large 14.5-inch infotainment system, the instrument cluster also gets a large display coming in with a size of 12.3-inches. Not to be left out even the climate controls receive a touch control system as well. With the emphasis on minimalism it's not hard to see why the G80 designs have opted to use large and wide screens instead with minimal physical button usage.
Safety and performance
For safety, the Genesis G80 comes standard with 10 airbags and a set of advanced safety features. These features include a multi-collision braking system that automatically stops the vehicle in the event of a crash. It also comes with other advanced driver-assistance systems that utilize sensors found around the car as well as machine learning. It comes with highway driving assist II, Smart Cruise control with Machine learning, Forward Collision, and blind-post collision avoidance.
Powering the G80 is a set of three powerplant options. The first is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 300hp and 421 Nm of torque. The second option is a 3.5-liter V6 that makes 375hp and 530 Nm of torque easily rivaling the twisting force of mid-size pickups. The third and last option is a 2.2-liter turbocharged diesel four-cylinder engine that produces 210hp and 440 Nm of torque. Each of these engines will be had with 8-speed automatic transmission. Pricing for the all-new vehicle starts at around $43,575.
