The Hyundai N performance division of Hyundai has created some very exciting cars, taking their experiences in various motorsports to transform some of Hyundai’s offerings into something truly special and for the enthusiast. This time, the N Division is taking a dabble into electrification with their very own Ioniq 5 EV crossover, as teased by Hyundai’s testing in the Arctic circle.
Just like the standard model, the Ioniq 5 N will also be fully electric. The regular Ioniq already produces a very impressive 320 hp and 604 Nm of torque from its 77.4 kWh battery, so we can definitely expect the full fledged N version to make a lot more than the current offering. We could also expect range to increase from 470 km should a larger battery be in the works, but of course with the larger amount of intoxicating power paired with heavier right foots, we could probably see less real-world range than the regular Ioniq 5.
Asides from improvements in power, we can also expect the Ioniq N to have an updated suspension, thicker roll-bars, larger braking system, bigger wheels to house the brakes, stickier and wider tires, sports-oriented seats and perhaps a re-engineered AWD (All-Wheel Drive) system perhaps taking a book from their impressive World Rally Championship (WRC) experience in order to safely put power on the ground. The video also suggests that you can also easily break traction should you demand that sort of purpose from the electric crossover. We can also expect the signature Hyundai N color to be an option along with red accents scattered throughout various trimmings along the exterior and interior.
We could expect the Ioniq 5 N to be unveiled later in 2023, and it will target the Tesla Model 3, Ford Mustang Mach-E, and Polestar 2. Should this higher performance variant be released locally, it will not have any direct competitors and could be a class of its own. Currently, no Hyundai N models have made it to the Philippines, but fingers crossed that Hyundai Motor Philippines will consider the high-performance arm of the South Korean automaker.
