Hyundai’s Christmas treat is an early look at the next generation of the Kona compact crossover. The 2024 Kona will be offered in four variants: EV, hybrid, internal combustion, and the performance level N-line.
The next-generation Kona’s appearance takes after other Hyundai models. You’ll first notice Hyundai’s proprietary Seamless Horizon Lamp, a feature the Kona shares with the Staria and Stargazer, as for its taillights, they have done the same as well, much like the Stargazer’s rear end.
Although the design is new and future-centric, the 2024 Kona still has glimpses of the model it will soon replace, like the wheel arches that the 1st generation has where the front fascia melds with the headlights and taillights.
Besides the difference in propulsion and performance, the four variant options of the Kona can be differentiated by looking at their front fascia. For instance, the EV Kona’s front grille and wheels have pixel-like detailing, with the wheel arches painted to match the color of the body. Meanwhile, the combustion engine Kona and Hybrid variants look more robust with black wheel arch flares. Furthermore, on the design differences, the N-line has optional black wing mirrors and roof, silver side skirts, a wing-type spoiler at the back, and aggressive bumpers with twin mufflers completing the look.
Inside the Kona, the interior is also awash with futuristic designs commonly found in EV models. The dashboard emphasizes and capitalizes on the Kona’s space, featuring a 12.3-inch digital display integrated with the car’s crash pad to increase space. The Kona’s shifter has also found a new home behind the car’s steering wheel to provide additional space and to make the environment feel less claustrophobic. Ambient lighting is present to further enhance the mood of the driver and the car’s passengers.
At the back of the car, Hyundai’s effort to maximize the Kona’s usability and convenience brought about the “curve-less” design of the rear seats, which Hyundai states will not sacrifice comfort.
In the coming months, Hyundai will be releasing more information on the 2024 Kona.
