KG Mobility has officially announced its presence in the Philippines. Under The Covenant Car Company Incorporated, the South Korean brand may look a bit familiar and that’s because KG Mobility is the new company that’s heading the SsangYong brand and it’s now officially here in the country.
Shedding its legacy name, the brand is looking forward to a better and brighter future under KG Mobility. Several SsangYong nameplates are making a return which includes the likes of the Rexton, Musso Grand, and Tivoli. However, there is a new name joining the fray, called the Torres.
KG Mobility is attacking a number of segments in the Philippines. Staying true to its legacy of being an “SUV Specialist,” the brand is looking forward to offering the Filipino car buyer its own take on what a crossover, SUV, or pickup truck should be.
Tivoli and Tivoli Grand
Starting out with the more familiar names, the Tivoli is the smallest and most affordable model in the lineup. It comes with a four-cylinder 1.6-liter engine that makes 126 hp and 160 Nm of torque. Available in two flavors, the standard Tivoli is the most compact selection in the stable, while the Tivoli Grand features more space in comparison. The same engine is used between the two, and the transmission is a six-speed AISIN automatic.
Aside from that, the model gets up to 1,440 liters of storage space, dual-zone automatic climate control, a reverse camera, front and rear parking assist, automatic headlamps, and a leather interior. On top of that, both cars come with a fully loaded infotainment and driving information array of displays. A 10.25-inch information display is in the dashboard and complemented y an eight-inch Smart Mirroring Multimedia System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto as standard.
Rexton
Next up is an underrated favorite that we were able to review in the past. The Rexton returns. While it wasn’t at the launch event, it will serve as KG Mobility’s premium PPV offering in the country. The model is a seven-seater, and it is looking to take a bigger piece of the midsize SUV market moving forward. Equipped with a 2.2-liter diesel engine with 200 hp and 441 Nm of torque, the motor is mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission and it can also come with a four-wheel-drive system with drive modes available.
On top of its powerful and strong platform, it gets an advanced driver assistance system (ADAS) to bring it in line with the rest of the competition, a power tailgate, memory seats for te driver, a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, and a 12.3-inch Smart Audio System with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto; further complemented by a wireless charger.
Musso Grand
The last model to make a return is the Musso Grand. As an option for the ever-popular midsize pickup truck segment, it uses the same platform as the Rexton and features the same 2.2-liter diesel engine but with an output of 185 hp and 420 Nm of torque, still rather competitive compared to its rivals in the segment.
Apart from that, we’re getting a premium set of features along with a truckload of utility. The rear deck can house up to 1,262 liters and among a host of other features, the 12.3-inch infotainment and driving info displays are also on offer with the brand’s pickup truck. Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are also available here and ADAS is also present for worry-free motoring.
Torres
Finally, and perhaps the most exciting model displayed at the event, the Torres is a totally new nameplate with a fresh new face. In other words, it’s the most radically-designed crossover in the stable right now. Bigger in size compared to the subcompact Tivoli, the Torres features a more powerful motor and more capability to boot. Equipped with a 1.5-liter turbocharged gasoline engine, it makes 161 hp and 280 Nm of torque, easily in line with other comparable crossovers in the market today. KG Mobility also boasts of its up to 1.5-tonne towing capacity. In addition to that, it expands its portfolio with its all-wheel-drive mode system.
In addition to the engine, the cargo space can also expand up to 1,662 liters, you also get up to seven airbags, and an eight-way power adjustable pair of front seats with heating and ventilation are available. Following those features is a wireless phone charger, a nine-inch HD Smart Infotainment Screen with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 12-inch digital instrument cluster, and as well as interior ambient lighting that adds an extra special touch to this model.
As for the prices of the lineup, KG Mobility is positioning itself well in the market, pricing its cars rather well in relation to the rest of the market, only made sweeter by the introductory prices presented by the brand in celebration of its launch.
