Kia Philippines through a media Zoom meeting has revealed more information about its much anticipated and upcoming model, the 2021 Kia Stonic. This subcompact crossover is aimed at a younger audience with an attractive price point designed to easily fit the budget of its target market. The all-new Kia Stonic is the 11th model to join the South Korean automaker’s local lineup and will slot above the Kia Rio and just under the Kia Seltos.
Exterior
What you can expect from its exterior is the Kia Stonic’s youthful and sporty design. It comes with the brand’s signature tiger-nose grille along with projector halogen headlights which are standard across the range. The subcompact crossover will also feature LED daytime running lights as well, which should be exclusive for the EX variant. It also gets roof rails for all variants along with 185mm worth of ground clearance.
Interior and tech
On the inside, the 2021 Kia Stonic will come with smart entry and push start system for the EX variant, along with a 6-speaker sound system, an 8-inch infotainment system that comes with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, and finally a single-zone automatic climate control system for the EX variants. Kia has yet to reveal what kind of seating material it will be using for its newest model, however, we can assume that it will be only available with fabric.
In terms of tech, the Kia Stonic will come with a rearview camera with dynamic guidelines. The EX variant, on the other hand, will benefit from the addition of rear parking sensors, hill start assist, and an electronic stability control program.
Power
Under the hood, the 2021 Kia Stonic will be available with a 1.4-liter naturally aspirated gasoline engine. It will output 94 hp and 131 Nm of torque for the manual transmission variants and 99hp for the automatic variant with the same torque figures. If these figures look familiar it is because the new subcompact crossover has a similar engine to its hatchback brother the Kia Rio. The Stonic will send its power to the front wheels via either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission.
Pricing
When it comes to pricing Kia Philippines has given the all-new 2021 Kia Stonic substantial pre-launch discounts. The entry-level LX MT variant can be had for as low as P675k representing a P60,000 discount off its original SRP of P735k. The LX AT variant, on the other hand, can be had with a P50,000 discount giving it a pre-launch price of P785,000. Its original price once the promo ends it will return to P835,000. For the range topping EX AT variant it will come with a P50,000 discount bringing its price down from its original SRP of P925,000 to P875,000.
