Mazda BT-50

Launched globally in 2020, the current generation of the BT-50 entered the market bearing a stylish new face and a rugged platform courtesy of the Isuzu D-MAX on which it’s based. Four years later, following the recent update of the D-MAX, Mazda Australia has announced that a major update is on the way for the BT-50.

A recently released teaser image of the updated BT-50 reveals that it will feature refreshed LED headlights, taking inspiration from Mazda’s crossover offerings, along with a bold new front grille that showcases a surprisingly large Mazda emblem up front and center. It’s so large, in fact, we think it’s even bigger than the emblem fitted on the CX-90 crossover.

Mazda says the pickup will receive a “comprehensive redesign inside and out,” including major upgrades to the Human Machine Interface (HMI), improved safety and assistance systems, and expanded functionality. Specific information about the upgrades hasn’t been released yet, so we’ll have to wait for October 18 to get the full picture.

If the D-MAX’s facelift is anything to go by, we can expect a revised set of wheels, taillights, and maybe a redesigned tailgate to go along with the new headlights and revised front clip. Since the current generation BT-50 is built alongside the D-MAX, powertrain options should still be the same.

Here in the Philippines, the BT-50 is powered by the robust 4JJ4-TCX 3.0-liter turbo-diesel engine that delivers 187 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque, paired with either a six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual transmission. The suspension system features an independent double-wishbone setup at the front and leaf springs at the rear for durability. For braking, the BT-50 is equipped with hydraulic ventilated disc brakes with vacuum servo assistance in the front and drum brakes in the rear.

The official reveal is just days away, but we’ll keep you updated with any new developments as they come. Since the facelift will debut in Australia, it might be a while before the refreshed BT-50 arrives here.
