Mazda’s MX-30 gets a new Retro Sports Edition in Japan

It seemed like the Mazda MX-30 had its time, but not in Japan. Recently, Mazda made an appearance at the Philippine International Motor Show (PIMS) and, meanwhile, in Japan, the carmaker introduced updates for the MX-30. While the MX-30 didn’t gain much attention in the United States, selling only 66 units in the first half of 2023 and 324 units in 2022, it continues to be popular in Japan. The MX-30 is available in different versions: a fully electric model (BEV), a range-extender version, and a mild-hybrid (MHEV). To make things even better, Mazda has launched the Retro Sports Edition.

The Retro Sports Edition features black accents, like black wing mirrors and wheels, for a sportier look. Mazda has also introduced three new color options, one being a terracotta-like shade that gives the SUV a fresh appearance. Inside, the Retro Sports Edition now comes with a larger 10.25-inch infotainment screen, replacing the old 8.8-inch display, which supports wireless Apple CarPlay and wired Android Auto, making it easier to use smartphones while driving. Mazda has also upgraded the USB ports from USB-A to USB-C for better compatibility with modern devices.

The interior of the Retro Sports Edition includes light-gray leather seats with yellow accents for a fresh look. Features like all-weather floor mats, a foldable stool, and cargo storage solutions also come in the new variant.

More connected features to the MX-30 have also been added. Using the My Mazda app, owners can start or stop the engine, adjust the climate control, or set the alarm from their phones, making everyday use more convenient. The SUV comes powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine paired with a mild-hybrid system. The price for the Retro Sports Edition ranges from approximately  P1.4M to PHP 1.6M. It seems the Mazda MX-30 isn’t done yet, at least in Japan.
