A new suspension bridge that will link Cordova in Mactan Island to Cebu is nearing completion. The P30 billion project is expected to be completed by next year. Dubbed the Cebu-Cordova Link Expressway (CCLEX), it will link the Municipality of Cordova to Cebu City. Currently, access to the area is limited as cars and other vehicles will have to pass through Mactan and either of its two bridges, Fernan Bridge and Osmena Bridge to get to the area.

The project is currently being run by the Cebu Cordova Link Expressway Corporation which itself is a subsidiary of the Metro Pacific Tollways Corporation (MPTC). The bridge is also part of a joint venture agreement between MPTC and the local government units of Cebu City and the Municipality of Cordova. Contractor work will be done by the Spanish company Acciona Construccion S.A and Filipino companies First Balfour and D.M. Consunji, Inc. Also aiding with the project are Denmark with the Philippines DCCD Engineering Corporation along with Noconsult.
CCLEX is set to be nearing substantial completion in 2021. Despite the challenges posted by Covid-19, we commit to continue working hard towards completing the project by next year for the benefit of the Cebuanos. It is something we look forward to, given the current conditions.
Currently, the project alone is at 61% completion with notable developments being the installation of stay cables that will hold the bridge deck along with the cross on top of the CCLEX pylons. With the new expressway, cars will have a faster toll route option that will give them a direct path into Cordova. The project estimates that at least 50,000 vehicles daily will use the bridge which in turn spur trade activities and open greater economic opportunities for the area.
