The new Nissan Navara finally lands in Philippine soils, with the renowned midsize pickup carrying major upgrades in safety. Aside from that, its variant range has also been expanded with a new PRO-4X variant. While it still carries the tried and tested 2.5-liter turbo diesel engine, the facelifted Navara’s lineup gets a makeover inside and out, plus, it’s still one of the most comfortable riding pickups in the market all thanks to its rear multi-link suspension and coil springs.
Exterior
The most striking change of all is the Navara’s Fascia which may vary depending on the variant. Only the PRO-4X variants get a blacked-out grille and special Nissan emblem, while the rest of the trims are reinforced with chrome and a standard logo. Also, all variants except for the EL get Quad-LED projector headlights as well as LED fog lamps.
Going over the side, all Navaras get stepboards for easier ingress and egress. Like the front, the Navara PRO-4X benefits from special black details that are applied on the side mirrors and door handles, aside from that, it even gets those special black cladding for that rugged look. As for the wheels, only the VL variants get a set of 18-inch alloys wrapped in 255/60 tires, the range-topping PRO-4X and VE variants come with a set of 17-inch alloys wrapped in 255/66 tires. Only the PRO-4X’s wheels get a gloss black finish, while the entry-level EL MT 4x2 gets 17-inch steel wheels instead.
Lastly, it comes with a new pair of tail lamps. Likewise, the entry-level variant is excluded from the LED treatment, with it having regular bulbs instead.
Interior
Inside, the Navara still sports a familiar layout, however, it does have some notable upgrades. One of the main highlights is the new steering wheel which includes different controls, only the EL variant is treated with a urethane material, while the rest of the variant range is wrapped in leather. The seats on the PRO-4X and VL variants are leather upholstered, while the rest of the variant range get fabric seats. Also, the power adjustability on the driver’s seat is exclusive on VL variants.
What’s new though is that all variants except the EL get a dual-zone automatic climate control. The 8-inch touchscreen was also carried over from the outgoing model, therefore giving seamless access to Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Sound is then released through a 6-speaker audio system, while the EL variant gets a 2-DIN radio with a 4-speaker audio system.
Power
As mentioned, the current Navara range still features the same 2.5-liter YD25 DDTi turbo diesel engine. Pairing the said mill with a 6-speed manual will enable the engine to produce 161 hp and 403 Nm of torque, while opting for the 7-speed automatic boosts its figures to 187 hp and 450 Nm torque.
Safety
Standard safety and security features include airbags (driver, front passenger, side, side curtain), Anti-lock Braking System (ABS), Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), Vehicle Dynamic Control (VDC), and more.
What’s surprising though, is that higher-end variants of the facelifted Nissan Navara come standard with a suite of Intelligent Mobility safety features that include intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB), Driver Attention Alert (DAA), Blind Spot Warning (BSW), Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA), Lane Departure Warning (LDW), High Beam Assist (HBA), Around View Monitor (AVM), Moving Object Detection, Hill Start Assist (HSA), and Hill Descent Control (HDC).
