Nissan, Renault, and Mitsubishi is said to form an alliance as they combine their respective electric vehicle (EV) platforms to reduce costs.
According to a report by Japanese newspaper Nikkei, this strategy would allow the 3 auto manufacturers to cut down the production cost as well as the price of their EVs.
Renault and Mitsubishi will be using the same platform of the Nissan Leaf EV. The 3 companies would work together to produce parts including motors, inverters, and batteries.
As a review, Nissan recently acquired Mitsubishi last October 2016. Part of the acquisition includes collaboration on joint purchasing, deeper localization, joint plant utilization, common vehicle platforms, technology-sharing, and expansion of the companies’ presence.
