The San Miguel Corporation (SMC) has announced via its official Skyway Twitter account that it will be temporarily closing down a section of the road to make way for construction. The section of the expressway that will be closed is the Buendia to Balintawak area and it will not be usable between the hours of 10 PM to 4 AM from January 8 to January 13, 2021.

With the official opening of the new elevated expressway still on track for January 14, 2021, the temporary closure is an understandable move. Skyway management has stated that the intermittent operations were done so that the finishing touches to the road could be attended to. This includes the installation of street lights, the painting of lane markings, and other construction activities. With the deadline for the official opening fast approaching the workers will need the extra time to finish the remaining work.
We’re happy that the Skyway 3 is helping ease travel and will efficiently reduce the volume of traffic along EDSA as we envisioned it. There’s still some finishing work on the main north-to-south stretch that we are completing, but come January 14, motorists can expect an even better experience at Skyway 3.

Initially partially opened on December 29, 2020, Skyway Stage 3 was intended to be an expressway that would help decongest the major roads within Metro Manila. While not yet in its finished form the new elevated roadway is already proving its worth as it has shortened the travel time between SLEX to NLEX and from Buendia to Balintawak. Thus far many motorists have reported that the new roadway has indeed helped with their daily commutes despite it only being partially open and with certain areas having varied speed limits.
