Ford Europe has recently launched a limited edition of the popular Ford Ranger dubbed the Ranger Thunder. The Thunder will only have 4500 examples made for the European market. Setting it apart from the regular pick is a set of distinct visual accents and a power upgrade you wouldn’t normally see in the standard vehicle.
The Thunder is based on the European spec Ranger WildTrak double cab. Compared to the Philippine version the European Wildtrak still carries the older 3.2-liter 5-cylinder diesel engine. The Thunder, on the other hand, now comes with the motor of the Ranger Raptor. This means that it is now powered by a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine giving the vehicle 210hp and 500 Nm of torque. The new motor comes with a familiar transmission as the limited edition variant also gets the Raptor’s 10-speed automatic transmission.
Due to the limited quantities of the special edition Thunder it will only be had with a Sea Gray paint job. Red accents are found all over the vehicle that can be found on its grille, bed sports bar, and through its various Thunder badges on the side of the vehicle and at its rear. Several of the pickup’s exterior accents have also been blacked-out which include the tail light bezels, headlight bezels, grille, rear bumper, skid plate, fog light surroundings, and door handles. The Thunder also gets a set of black 18-inch wheels. Not stopping there Ford has also added an optional Mountain Top roller shutter with a bed liner divider for interested customers.
On the inside of the special edition Ranger, it comes with a black leather interior that comes with "Thunder” red embroidery. Adding more to the theme, the pickup also comes with contrast red stitching on the steering wheel, seats, and instrument panel, as well as illuminated sill plates.
While the Ranger Thunder does present itself as an alluring prospect for the Philippine market it already has a local version in the form of the Philippine spec Ranger Wildtrak. The version being sold here already comes with a 2.0-liter bi-turbo diesel engine that has a similar output to its Ranger Raptor counterpart. While it doesn't have the limited edition exterior and interior trimmings the local Wildtrak has the features you need the most in the pickup in the form of its strong diesel motor.
