Last month, Subaru Philippines announced that the much-anticipated 2024 Subaru Crosstrek will be launching soon, and now, the wait is over as the all-new vehicle has been officially unveiled to the public. The grand reveal took place at the newly-inaugurated Subaru Alabang, hosted by Gateway Motors in Westgate.
The third-generation crossover, known before as the XV in its previous iterations, has undergone significant upgrades. With a sleeker and more dynamic appearance, the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek boasts an enhanced Subaru Global Platform, promising an even smoother and more comfortable driving experience. Moreover, the vehicle is equipped with a wide array of new and improved in-car amenities and cutting-edge safety features, with the main party piece being Subaru’s all-new EyeSight 4.0 advanced driver assist system which is also available in the new Forester.
The upgraded version incorporates an additional mono camera alongside the stereoscopic setup, significantly expanding the field of view, doubling what the EyeSight 3.0 had. This enhancement enables the car to detect potential hazards and take preemptive measures, such as automatic steering or braking, to prevent accidents from occurring. In addition, the crossover is equipped with a comprehensive range of intelligent driver aids. These features include adaptive cruise control, lane-keep assist, lane departure warning, lane-centering assist, autonomous emergency steering, pre-collision braking, and pre-collision throttle management.
The safety features don’t end there as the Crosstrek has more safety nets in its arsenal, further enhancing its protective capabilities. These features comprise anti-lock brakes with electronic brakeforce distribution, brake assist, active torque vectoring, vehicle dynamics control, reverse automatic braking, hill-start assist, X-Mode with hill-descent control, and a generous array of airbags.
The 2024 Crosstrek comes in two model variants: the entry-level 2.0i-L and the top-spec 2.0i-S. Although the L and S variants have some differences in equipment, both models are equipped with a 2.0-liter naturally-aspirated boxer engine featuring direct injection. This engine delivers 154 hp at 6000 rpm and 196 Nm of torque at 4000 rpm. All this power is transferred to all four wheels through a Lineartronic CVT with paddle shifters and Symmetrical AWD. According to Subaru’s brochure, this powertrain drives the Crosstrek from a standstill up to 100 km/h in 10.5 seconds with a top speed of 198 km/h.
Moving on to the Crosstrek’s looks and it becomes apparent that Subaru did not stop at just dropping the XV name and calling it a day, the Crosstrek definitely looks new. The front fascia now has sleek LED headlights and a more assertive grille with a fresh mesh pattern. The rugged appearance is accentuated by beefier body cladding, pronounced fender bulges, squared over-fenders, C-shaped LED taillights, a revitalized rear bumper, and additional creases on the tailgate, enhancing its aggressive exterior.
Both the 2.0i-L and 2.0i-S variants boast LED headlights, while the top-tier model exclusively features new LED cornering lamps. Furthermore, the 2.0i-L model is fitted with 17-inch alloy wheels wrapped in 225/60 series tires, while the 2.0i-S model impresses with larger 18-inch alloys complemented by 225/55 tires. In terms of dimensions, the Crosstrek measures 4480 mm in length, 1800 mm in width, and 1600 mm in height, and flaunts a 2670 mm wheelbase. Lastly, it proudly offers a generous 220 mm of ground clearance. The only thing separating the two variants in this department is the weight, with the 2.0i-S weighing 32 kg more than the 2.0i-L.
Inside, the Crosstrek is equipped with an 11.6-inch infotainment display. This display has Bluetooth, Apple CarPlay, and Android Auto connectivity. Other in-car amenities include dual-zone automatic climate control, keyless entry, push-button start, and a selection of USB-A and USB-C charging ports for added convenience. Additionally, power-folding side mirrors add to the modern functionality of the Crosstrek.
Unique to the 2.0i-S include a 10-way power-adjustable driver's seat with a memory function, a rear center armrest complete with integrated cupholders, a wireless charging pad for mobile phones, additional USB-A and USB-C charging ports thoughtfully provided for rear passengers, a power-sliding sunroof as well as steering responsive headlights, LED front fog lights, and auto-leveling LED headlights.
The prices of the 2024 Subaru Crosstrek are as follows:
Crosstrek 2.0i-L - P1,998,000
Crosstrek 2.0i-S - P2,018,000
Subaru says that there are currently 150 Crosstreks for sale in the Philippines right now and that there is no need to worry as more are on the way. If you were one of the people who were waiting eagerly for the XV’s replacement, the Crosstrek is finally here.
