Back when the fourth-gen Suzuki Jimny was launched in 2018, clamor for a slightly roomier five-door version began soon after. This call was finally answered in 2023 when Maruti Suzuki unveiled the Jimny 5-Door.
The 5-Door Jimny has gradually expanded to new markets, making its debut in the Philippines last year. It continues to be a favorite among off-road enthusiasts and those who simply love its cute, boxy design.
In Japan, the Jimny 5-Door was recently launched and instantly became a fan favorite. In just five days, Suzuki received approximately 50,000 orders for the model, known locally as the Jimny Nomade. However, with production limited to 1,200 units per month in India for the Japanese market, buyers face an estimated wait time of around three and a half years.
Furthermore, demand for the mini SUV is so overwhelming that Suzuki had to cancel all exhibition events featuring the Jimny 5-Door. Though Suzuki Japan did not provide an exact reason for this, we can only speculate that demo units of the 5-Door Jimny Nomade had to be reallocated to customer orders. On its official website, Suzuki issued an apology to potential buyers affected by the backlog.

“We apologize to customers considering the purchase of the Jimny Nomad due to the suspension of orders. Thank you very much for your interest in our products. The Jimny Nomad has been very well received, and we have received orders that far exceed our production capacity. As a result, we will be temporarily suspending orders. We will provide updates on when orders will reopen, considering the future production situation. We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate your understanding,”

Curious why the 5-Door Jimny is gaining more popularity than the 3-Door version in Japan? The reason is simple. In the Philippines, many Jimny owners and potential buyers prefer the extra two doors for increased trunk space and easier access to the second row. It’s likely that these same upgrades were highly anticipated in Japan, driving the surge in demand.
If you’re looking to buy a Jimny yourself, don’t worry, order books are still open for this 4x4 SUV. Check it out on AutoDeal.com.ph and click the ‘Get Quote’ button to start your purchase.
