Reports are coming in from Japanese sources, Best Car Web, that the longer Suzuki Jimny is on the way, and just about ready for prime time in India. The new model is set for a launch on January 13, 2023, about two weeks after the new year.
Motor1 picked up on the story, stating that there were reports of a five-door Suzuki Jimny launch to happen before the end of 2022, but since it’s only a few days before 2023 is upon us, the turnout looks very unlikely. Local reports from India, however, claim that the launch of the five-door Jimny will happen at the Auto Expo, on January 13, 2023.
Best Car Web picked up on the story from Indian sources. Prior to this, there have been numerous sightings of the five-door Jimny for quite some time already, with numerous news outlets getting photos of the camouflaged model on road. Autocar India, Rushlane, and other sources have reported on the spy shots and have even dreamed up some renders just like our render.
Currently, sources are pinning the length of the new five-door Jimny at 300mm longer than the current two-door model. However, the width of it will be similar to what we have now. Of course, the design of the five-door model will be the same, still, which means that it will still have the same well-loved fascia and rear.
In addition to the added length, Best Car Web also reported that the new model could come with a hybrid powertrain, with the electric motor contributing about 33 extra horsepower and 60 Nm of torque. The report also pins the release of this model in the third quarter of 2023.
With all the reports flying around, it might make sense for Suzuki to prepare a lot of units for release around the world. That being said, Maruti Suzuki in India could see this new model launched sooner than the rest of the world. However, the hybrid model seems like the more exciting one to look out for, but that will need an even longer wait.
