Motorists finally have an alternative to the congested roads of Epifanio delos Santos Avenue (EDSA) and Circumferential Road 5 (C5) as the government partially opens the Laguna Lake Highway.
The Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) opened more than half of the 10.7-km Laguna Lake Highway. The public may now use 6-km worth of paved roads that stretch eastbound from ML Quezon Avenue to Napindan Bridge, Taguig City.
Moreover, 1.5 km has been added to its eastbound portion starting at the Hagonoy Flood Gate to ML Quezon Avenue. However, only 940 m worth of road can implement its 2-m wide planting strip, 3-m wide bike lane, and 1.5-m sidewalk as other parts of the highway are yet to be completed.
The opening of this additional Laguna Lake Highway segment will encourage more motorists to take this faster route from Taytay Rizal to Bicutan, Taguig.
Once the westbound lanes are completed, the DPWH says that using the Laguna Lake Highway may cut travel time from Taytay, Rizal to Bicutan, Taguig to just one and a half hour. It will also serve as a dike to protect Taguig City residents from flooding.
