Garnering an overall rating of 4.2 out of a perfect 5 in my general review, the 2019 GAC GA4 is definitely no pushover in the compact sedan category. The segment that’s currently ruled by Japanese nameplates is in for a surprise with this new challenger, and part of that commendation would be its list of technology and safety features.
Let’s take a closer look into the GAC GA4’s tech and safety offerings so you would have a better judgment if this car is worthy of your money.
Convenience in Technology
It’s quite a painless experience for the driver inside the GA4. First and foremost, the driver’s seat has a six-way power adjustment, which excludes lumbar adjustment. But that’s fine since it’s easy to find a comfortable driving position inside the car even without telescopic steering adjustment. Beyond that, you have speed-sending door locks, automatic headlights, rain-sensing wipers, cruise control, cornering lights, and an auto-dimming rear-view mirror, so everything’s pretty automatic for the one behind the wheel.
Another heaven-sent feature inside the GA4 is its auto brake hold function, which, as its name suggests, hold the brakes for you. This is a pretty convenient feature especially in bumper-to-bumper situations, stopping at inclines, and when stopping at intersections with traffic lights. You won’t need to switch to Neutral in these situations; just step on the brakes and forget about it. When you need to move, just press on the accelerator. It’s a bit harsh to move from it, though, so you would need to be easy on getting off from a standstill.
As for the infotainment system, the GA4 has an 8-inch touchscreen monitor that has a separate panel for buttons and knobs – just in case you’re like me who prefers the latter for a better haptic experience. Although, with the absence of Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, you’ll have to settle with Bluetooth for your music needs. It’s fine since the display’s nice and it won’t leave you with an empty screen.
The GA4’s automatic climate control works well and won’t just bombard you with cold air, plus it has a negative ion air purifier that gets rid of interior smell easily. In addition, GAC’s compact sedan is equipped with four cameras that show you every corner of the vehicle – a feature that you’ll likely find in pricier cars. That’s pretty nifty when driving through tight alleys.
Lastly, the trunk can be opened remotely with just a push of a button. Nice.
Safety’s a Priority
Aside from the around-view monitor that protects your car from damages, the GA4 takes care of its occupants as well with its standard safety features like dual front and side airbags, five seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat anchors, child locks, and ABS with EBD. These features are expected, but the GA4 offers more such as electronic stability program (ESP), traction control system, and tire-pressure monitoring system.
The clincher in the GA4 would be its auto-unlock function that releases the door locks in case of an accident. Not every car has this feature and it’s a pretty good feeling to know that the car you’re driving comes equipped with one.
