The 2017 all-new Hyundai Elantra has won at the recently-concluded International Design Excellence (IDEA). The Korean compact sedan was given a Bronze award at the said competition’s Automotive & Transportation category for its bold, aerodynamic design.

It features a more aggressive fascia that’s highlighted by a new bumper and lower hexagonal grille. The all-new Elantra also comes with a new set of high intensity discharge (HID) headlights and vertically-positioned daytime running lights (DRL) giving the compact sedan its sharp looks.

The side profile, on the other hand, has been sculpted to present a smoother, more fluidic look compared to its predecessor. It gets detailed with bolder character lines, LED side mirror turn signal lights, and a new set of 16- or 17-inch aluminum or alloy wheels, respectively. Just ahead of the front wheels are specially-designed air curtains that improve airflow around the wheels and under the car. Meanwhile, its rear has sleek looking taillights and a low trunk spoiler complete the sporty look.
This top honor for the 2017 Elantra shows that Hyundai is committed to creating bold and extraordinary designs. This award for the 2017 Elantra makes us proud and is a great recognition for our design leadership,” said Peter Schreyer, President and Chief Design Officer of Hyundai Motor Group.
IDEA is a premier international design competition conducted annually by the Industrial Designers Society of America (IDSA). The award-giving body recognizes and promotes design excellence across a wide array of industries and disciplines. Judging is based on the following criteria of design excellence; design innovation, benefit to the user, benefit to the client, benefit to society and appropriate aesthetics.
