The all-new CR-V, which debuted last October 2016, will be having a diesel powered variant. Yes, the CR-V will have a diesel variant but it's not yet set for the Philippine shore until further details from Honda PH are disclosed.
Simply put, the 2017 CR-V’s 1.6L 4-cylinder i-DTEC turbodiesel engine will be paired with a 9-speed automatic transmission, far from the current locally available 5-speed automatic. Of note, the all-new CR-V will be Honda’s first to feature a diesel engine in Asia. With its 160 hp and 350 Nm of torque, the diesel-powered CR-V would be a tough contender in its segment.
The new turbodiesel engine is Honda's follow up to the recent turbocharged engine, which was introduced as the new CR-V's power plant last year. Just a few months after its introduction, the compact SUV earned Kelley Blue Book's Best Family Cars of 2017 award, alongside the HR-V, Pilot, and Odyssey.
We all have yet to see a diesel Honda running on the local streets, at least, for now. If the CR-V that’s equipped with i-DTEC engine makes it to the Philippine shore, it would be the first ever Honda unit to be powered by diesel. For now, let us contain ourselves and extend our patience; it will come. It should, right?
