Most of us have seen it in the big screen and if you're a fan of Koreanovelas, chances are you've seen it there as well. We take a look and try to get to know this subcompact hatchback, the Chevrolet Spark 1.2L LT, a little bit more.
Exterior
Following its global branding, the Chevrolet Spark has large headlights and a honeycomb grille which is topped of with their bowtie logo. The rear door handles are neatly tucked in along the window panel giving it a 2-door illusion which usually fools people new to the Spark. The back features a rear spoiler completing the sporty look, a 3rd brake light, and a rear wiper.
Engine
Giving life to the Spark is a 1.2L 4-cylinder S-TEC gasoline engine that can pump out 82 hp and 100 Nm of torque, 6 hp more than the Mitsubishi Mirage. On the other hand, it's capable of producing 19.6 km/L fuel efficiency numbers.
Interior and driving experience
The Spark has Chevrolet's trademark interior layout, the dual cockpit, accentuated with textured inserts that flows from the center to each side of the cabin. Notable is the spacious headroom, snug driver and front passenger seats, LED lit instrument panel, and cool air conditioning system. Adding an element of sportiness inside is the motorcycle inspired gauge clusters.
The steering wheel is at a level that's easy to hold for people who stand 5-feet up. When shifting gears, the Chevrolet Spark has a smooth and crisp movement when throwing it into gear.
Upfront, the legroom is generous and the seats are comfy. At the rear, however, the flat backrest can be at times unpleasurable. As expected of cars in this segment, luggage space is tight but it's good to know that the trunk cover can be removed, the seats split 60:40, and there are roof rails for additional cargo space.
Safety
The Chevrolet Spark 1.2L has several safety features ready to keep passengers safe from harm such as a driver side SRS airbag, central door lock, remote keyless entry, alarm, and electronic immobilizer.
Priced at P598,888, the Spark 1.2L is perfect for yuppies or new families looking for a sub P600,000 car with a powerful yet fuel efficient engine with more safety features.
