To answer the call for a green and sustainable development, Hyundai Asia Resources Inc. (HARI) recently unlocked the doors of their new Hyundai Logistics Center (HLC) last April 28, 2015 in Calamba, Laguna.
HLC’s massive 10-hectare site was developed in compliance with the highest standards of the Philippine Green Building Initiative (PGBI) - an environmentally-concerned group of professional development associations.
Reusing resources was a big factor in its architecture. It was once a textile factory before HARI took over. By studying its history, they harnessed the site’s already-existing structures and tranquil setting along the Mount Makiling Forest Reserve and Tagaytay Mountain Ridge as a starting point.
“We are building a case for responsible innovation that will revolutionize the local automotive industry, not only with new car models that represent new thinking in green technology but also in green operations,” says HARI President and CEO Ms. Fe Perez-Agudo
Eco as can be
HARI ushered the HLC with the launching theme, “ECO: Experience ComeUnity.” This has dealers and VIPs from both business and government sectors uniting to spark a trend-setting development.
Some of HLC’s eco-saving features include the use of LED lights, warehouse light monitors that capture natural light, daytime artificial lights, and the use of solar panels. Water conservation is done via reusing wastewater from the car preparation areas or using rainwater collected through a catch basin for other areas of the facility such as irrigation and siphoning. These wastewater are then treated to minimize its harmful effects in the environment.
What’s even more unique to the HLC is that it blends in with the surroundings. That means the facility is built to preserve everything that nature already provided for it, especially the trees and the landscapes.
HLC spearheads HARI’s adaptation to the Global Dealership Space Identity (GDSI) - a new vision of dealership structure and design, which balances technology and nature with movement and contemplation - all housed in a modern and Zen-inspiring infrastructure.
A Hyundai’s HLC journey
Hyundai vehicles coming in and out of the HLC will undergo several preparation and evaluation steps before rolling out. Prior to preparation, they’ll first be gathered in the facility’s Complete Built Unit (CBU) area. Then they move to the CBU Preparation Area 1, where cleaning, detailing and other local spec touches are done. After that, they proceed to CBU Preparation Area 2 for quality and technical checks, then on to the Buy-Off Area where they’ll be turned over to the dealers or clients. The final destination will be at the pedestal-like “Circle of Benediction,” where they can be seen all shiny and ready for the road.
There is even a chapel within the HLC ensuring spiritual well-being for all its employees and as well as providing peace from the busy atmosphere of the facility, should they need to rest and relax. It also has a garden with walls, lined with green vegetation.
The Hyundai Logistics Center is now on full operation and is ready to serve its clients. As time goes by, further additions and improvements to the facility will be made. HARI’s new GDSI-developed dealerships like the HLC will be labelled as “Centers of Excellence” of Hyundai.
