It seems that Mazda is looking to revamp its BT-50 as the company announced that they have reached a basic agreement with Isuzu to develop a next-generation pickup truck.
Under the said agreement, Isuzu will produce next-generation pickup trucks for Mazda. It will be based on Isuzu’s pickup truck model, the D-MAX.
With that in mind, the new pickup could replace the Mazda BT-50, a vehicle that was co-developed with Ford. For the uninitiated, the BT-50 is based on the Ford Ranger’s platform and the current generation of this vehicle is in production in Thailand.
However, Mazda and Isuzu have yet to release more details about the pickup truck but the model will be sold globally except in North America.
Moreover, the two companies believe that the agreement will benefit both brands allowing Isuzu to “enhance its product competitiveness” and Mazda to “strengthen its product line-up and maintain own-brand market coverage.”
As a review, this is not the first time that Mazda and Isuzu team up. The two companies have a collaborative relationship for more than a decade, with Isuzu producing Mazda trucks for the Japanese market.
