Thanks to Columbian Autocar Corporation (CAC), the exclusive distributor of Kia Motor vehicles in the Philippines, the all-new 3rd generation Kia Sorento is now here, officially unveiled in the recent Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
This Korean SUV now boasts sophisticated styling and a premium interior. The cleaner profile is complemented by a tiger-nose grille with three-dimensional diamond pattern, similar to the recently-launched Grand Carnival. Its wrap-around projector lamps with Light Guide and Escort feature is both brawny and intelligent.
With its bigger overall dimension, the all-new Sorento boasts greater interior space for all 7 passengers. Its “modern and wide” theme features a horizontal layout on the instrument cluster, interior trim, and a wrap-around dashboard that extends to the door side trims. Surfaces are finished in either soft-touch leather, woodgrain, or satin-chrome for a premium feel.
All occupants will also enjoy the Sorento’s full-leather seats that offer optimum comfort alongside a Dual-Zone Full Auto Climate unit. Always ready for adventure, it comes with a 40/20/40 second-row folding and 50/50 folding third-row seats that allows for 17.5% more luggage space compared to the previous generation. Owners will also find the Smart Power Tailgate an added convenience when loading items, while the panoramic sunroof will be greatly appreciated during out of town road trips.
As far as in-car entertainment goes, the 3.8-inch mono TFT LCD and 6-speaker infotainment system are standard equipment, which can be accessed via steering wheel-mounted audio controls or Bluetooth hands-free connection. Drivers will also be rewarded with the presence of cruise control, automatic headlights, Smart Key with Start/Stop Button, and front and rear parking assist system.
The all-new Sorento offers better driving experience thanks to an improved steering, suspension, and monocoque body shell, which promises better stability at high speeds. Its engine, an upgraded 2.2L inline 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC CRDi diesel with E-VGT is mated to a 6-speed automatic transmission with Shiftronic feature. This takes advantage of the Drive Mode Select System that can be switched to Normal, Sport, or ECO modes.
Meanwhile, all-wheel-drive duties is handled by a DYNAMAX™ “torque-on-demand” system that automatically routes power to the wheel with the most traction during poor driving conditions. On the safety aspect, this midsize crossover SUV offers dual SRS airbags, ABS, whiplash reduction front seats, ISOFIX child anchors, and a reinforced body shell.
At launch, Kia is offering 1 variant of the all-new Sorento, the R 2.2L EX AWD for a tag price of P2.3-million. Available colors are Silky Silver, Imperial Bronze, Aurora Black, Metal Stream, Snow White Pearl, Sunset Red, Platinum Graphite, and Clear White.
