The exclusive distributor of Subaru vehicles in the Philippines, Motor Image Pilipinas (MIPI), launched the new Forester at the 2016 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
Subaru’s updated SUV looks a bit more aggressive compared to its predecessor. This is because of its new front grille, sharper hawk eye headlights with DRL, revised LED fog lamp clusters, and tail lights. The side is almost untouched except for the chrome lining at the bottom of the doors.
The entertainment system for the new Forester has been given a much needed upgrade. It now comes with a Harman/Kardon high-grade multi-function touch screen display with connectivity functions.
But the biggest improvements are found under skin. There’s a new X-Mode that actively controls the engine, transmission, Symmetrical AWD, and brakes to suit almost any challenging terrain. This adds Hill Descent Control, an enhanced AWD system, and revised Vehicle Dynamics Control (VDC).
The suspension has been tuned for maximum comfort and handling performance, with a stiffer front cross member and new coil/damper rates. As for safety, the Steering Responsive Headlights, Hill Start Assist, and Brake Override are nice additions to the standard equipment. What’s really innovative though is the PIN code access feature that lets users enter the Forester without the key fob. This is particularly useful for individuals with active lifestyles who might misplace or damage the key on their adventures.
The new Forester comes in 3 variants: the 2.0i-L, the 2.0i-P, and the top of the line turbocharged 2.0XT. These are priced between P1,448,000 to P1,918,000.
