After making its ASEAN debut last January, the all-new Subaru Impreza made its Philippine debut at the 2017 Manila International Auto Show (MIAS).
The 2017 Impreza is pitted to rival the likes of the Honda Civic, Toyota Corolla Altis, and the Mazda 3. While its competitors already have an early start in terms of sales and marketing, the 2017 Impreza is ready to take on the challenge with its revamped look and new Global Platform.
The all-new Impreza is the first Subaru model to be built on the brand’s new Global Platform. In a nutshell, this platform is said to enhance the vehicle’s overall driving performance and safety as well as improve its straight line stability, Noise/Vibration/Harshness (NVH), and comfort. Subaru’s Global Platform also underpins the all-new XV, which is set to arrive in the Philippines by the Q3 of 2017 (around August or September).
Aside from being equipped with the new Global Platform, the Impreza is also the 2017 Car of the Year Japan. It is also the 2nd car from the Japanese automaker to receive the said award. The first one was the Legacy, crowned in 2003.
Similar to what we saw during its ASEAN debut, the Impreza looks more exciting as compared to its predecessor. The brand’s “Dynamic x Solid” design language made the Impreza more aggressive. It also comes with a redesigned hexagonal grille, new C-shaped headlights, and a restyled bumper. The sharp character lines, prominent fender flares, and wraparound taillights further highlight the vehicle’s simple yet striking demeanor.
The interior features an 8.0-inch touchscreen display, a 3-spoke steering wheel, and chrome trims. Subaru claims the 2017 Impreza has a more spacious cabin as compared to the outgoing model; thanks to its 2670mm wheelbase.
Launched at MIAS is the 4-door sedan version of the Impreza with its 2.0L direct injection, naturally aspirated engine. This engine is capable of releasing 156 hp, which is 6 hp higher than the outgoing model. Lastly, the 2017 Impreza is priced at P1,388,000.
