Volkswagen has revealed the ID all-electric autonomous concept at this year’s Paris Motor Show. The said concept gives us a glimpse of Volkswagen’s first compact model to be produced using the Modular Electric Drive Kit (MEB).
The MEB is a platform that enables production cars to have pure electric range that is on par with gasoline-powered vehicles according to Volkswagen. In addition, MEB features a drivetrain that integrates electric motors and highly-efficient batteries. Volkswagen first previewed the said platform with the BUDD-e concept, a vehicle that is inspired by the brand’s Type2 Microbus.
With that in mind, the ID concept is powered by an electric motor which can produce 125 kW (168 hp). According to the carmaker, this zero-emission electric motor is capable of achieving a range between 400 km to 600 km on a single charge.

In addition, the ID has a self-driving mode called “ID Pilot.” When engaged, the concept’s steering wheel retracts into the dashboard. The ID concept’s self-driving mode previews Volkswagen’s autonomous driving tech which will be offered starting 2025. As a review, Volkswagen said that they plan to launch more than 30 all-electric vehicles over the next 10 years, part of the brand’s “Strategy 2025” plan.
