Tesla was able to hire a top engineering talent from the Swedish carmaker Volvo in efforts to improve its vehicles’ interiors.
According to Electrek, the senior director of engineering and ‘Head of Interior Engineering’ of Volvo, Anders Bell, has agreed to join Tesla in the same role this month. This was confirmed by an update on the engineer’s LinkedIn account over the weekend.
The long-time Volvo engineer will be coming over from Sweden to California (where Tesla performs its major operations), after spending his entire career in leading all interior engineering at the Swedish marque.
Moreover, his 23-year experience in Volvo includes being in charge of the 2015 Volvo S60L interior creation, as well as the scalable product architecture (SPA) cross carline front seat system introduced in 2015 Volvo XC90. Meanwhile, after the Chinese automaker Geely’s acquisition of Volvo, Bell created the Interior and Climate engineering department of ‘Volvo Cars China.’
With the minimalist interior design of Tesla models, it is thrilling only by thinking how Bell could prove his skills to transform the American automaker’s image.
