The 2015 National Drag Racing Championship (NDRC) Southern Series has concluded its 4th and final leg at the Batangas Racing Circuit (BRC). Held last May 9, JCT-Blanche’s Jonathan Tiu dominated in what was an intense racing weekend.
Onboard his Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution VIII, Tiu further extended his championship lead by being the fastest in the Quick 8 Class. He stopped the clock at a blistering 10.185 seconds, which led him to face his teammate Rommel Dural on a Honda civic EG hatchback in the final run. But Dural’s Civic suffered an engine problem. This handed Tiu the win via a “bye run”. Ryan Ocampo then placed 3rd.
Tiu’s Evo VIII was just as monstrous as his “Tiunami 1” GT-R, but due to major technical problems at Clark last month, the GT-R was sidelined once more.
In the Pro Class, Tiu crossed the line with an even faster 9.896 seconds, but his time went way quicker than his dial-in time, thus resulting to a break-out. This placed RSL Motorsport’s Martin Manalo on the top of the podium despite a slower 12.457 second run. Tiu was relegated to 2nd place, and completing the Pro Class top 3 was Jonathan Young.
Down in the Expert Class, Serson Emprese led with a 13.319 second run, while Richard Pagumbal came 2nd and Zebedee Mendoza finished 3rd.
Meanwhile, Arvindon Villalobos took the Sportsman Class lead, followed by Fernando Eugenio and Dan Bathan in 2nd and 3rd places, respectively.
Finally in the Hot Street Class, Dino Angelo Lagdameo took home 1st place with a 17.888 second run on the stopwatch. Ponpon Jimenez came 2nd with an 18.576 second run, while Derfjheson Hernandez made it to 3rd place with a 20.660 second run, just in time for the afternoon downpour that closed what was a very action-packed NDRC Southern Series 2015 season.
Watch out for the 2015 National Drag Racing Championship Northern Series’ 4th and final race, happening on May 30 at the Clark International raceway (CIS).
The 2015 National Drag Racing Championship is sanctioned by the Automobile Association Philippines (AAP) and sponsored by M&H Tires, Sparco, GT Radial, and Aguila Auto Glass.
